I canceled my DirecTV today.
Of course, one has to call them to cancel, you can't do it online.
I must have told her, "Please just cancel it" at least 20 times through her pseudo-concerned spiel of saving me money.
It was worse than calling Sirius/XM.

Funny how when I call them with a problem, I talk to Akbar, who says his name is Bob.
But when you call to cancel, you talk to an actual American-sounding human being.

Now comes the challenge of the wife learning to navigate her way thru apps and live TV.
Getting a Roku stick for her office TV since the bedroom TV is Roku and she already navigates it.

I have an antenna in the attic for local channels, connected it to all TVs today.
I made and installed it in case the satellite went out years ago.
Now it's a backup in case the internet goes down.

Yes, we should have ditched DirecTV a long time ago, but it is just so convenient to have everything in one place.
I'm going to try YouTube TV and see how that goes.
She needs her college and NFL football in a couple of months.

Side note: My equipment is so old DirecTV doesn't want it back..

My Fiber internet/TV package has been creeping up the past couple years. $200/mo now

 

I canceled direcTV when Mom kicked the bucket. I never watched it anyway, it was her thing.

The only PITA was that they issued a prorated refund on a mastercard, but it wouldn't activate/work and it's impossible to get a person on the phone for the card. Took me about 3 hours to get through to somebody that could handle it. They wanted to send another card. I said "Nope. Just mail me a check."

Might have been easier for me to get the cancellation because it makes people uncomfortable when you tell them the person they are trying to get money from is dead.

 

My 500 Mbps internet is $70, usually get around 600.
Paying over $200 a month for 600+ channels of shit was getting stupid.



Funny how they offer to lower the price once a customer says adios.
Why not just give me that price in the first place?

My adult kids use YouTube TV, they have a free 7-day trial.

I don't watch the TV unless my wife and I are watching something together.
If it wasn't for her, I'd be running nothing but the coat hanger antenna I made and put in the attic...

Depends on what you want to watch. I just have netflix, and I'm probably going to sub to pepperbox TV. That should be enough for me.

I wish I could just buy channels a la carte. I'd have like 5 channels, the internet, and it would be amazing.

 

When I got rid of cable, I got an OTA antenna, Roku stick and Tablo whole house DVR. The Tablo is two channel so we can watch something different of both TVs, but we never do. We also have Amazon prime, but we had that way before it was a television network. Not counting prime, I think the whole thing was under $300.

I do get Sunday ticket from YouTube to watch out of market NFL games. That's 3-400 a year. For the paid streaming games I use the Dofu app on my phone and cast it to my TV.
