Had to fire someone at my new job yesterday. She literally started the same day I did and within 3 weeks she was out the door. Within a span of 3 days she caused issues with her manager(me), the assistant controller, controller and CFO. Oh and she did absolutely no work. I'll be redoing everything she touched when I get in this morning.

I'm so over accommodating employees who straight up have behavior/mental issues that make them unable and unsuitable to work in a professional office environment or literally want to collect a paycheck for doing no work.

She was interviewed and hired before I started the job so I had no input on her. All of management who interviewed her personally walked into my office and apologized to me for hiring her. She was that bad. For a 49 year old grown ass adult to behave the way she did in a workplace just boggles my mind.

Moving forward, anyone I hire at this place will have a 90 day probationary period where they can get cut loose for any reason.

Sorry for the early morning rant. Between HR and actual work, I put in 14 hours yesterday and by this Friday I will have worked 12 days straight. Just needing to vent a little.

Whatever this forum told me to do
the world needs more fine people like you.

the fine art of firing someone quickly is lost.

I can't take credit for the quick firing as I had support from my leadership. This person managed to alienate all of management and it was painfully obvious she wouldn't fit into the organization.

Would you believe me if I told you I feel sorry for her. This could not have been the first time this happened at a job for her. I can spend all day working on financial modeling, posting entries, performing analysis, presenting etc...and I won't get tired. Give me 20 minutes of people drama and bullshit and my battery is drained.

I got the day off today with 8 hours of pay.
The company moved my load with an independent contractor, they use them during Christmas.
Since our building is closed for the remodel for 2 years there is no extra work.
Because I came to work and punched in, they contractually have to pay me for 8 hours.
    I was there for about 20 minutes...

Brother, some days, I just can't win that lottery jackpot soon enough...Still thankful for the job and I actually am enjoying the challenge of fixing and revamping a bunch of broken processes.

That's too much drama. Gonna push in with an atom of advice. At least dig through the phone book to imagine which lawyer you'll hire when the lawsuit gets filed. You're in Commiefornia or I'd suggest a quick brush-up at the range, too. I hope neither of those unsolicited nuggets are remotely applicable.

I can definitely relate. However, this is the typical feeling at my deaprtment after trying to fix things at my level that the uppers have pushed down that make no sense, and typically don't have the desired effect they are looking for...:frusty:

You can handle it. I have faith in you.

firing people that don't live up to our companies standards is one of my favorite things to do. FK lazy ass people who don't have any work ethic. I'll gladly run your ass out.

I’d like to fire anyone that gets onto an elevator before the people in the elevator have exited. When did this become an advanced skill?!

Cute. I got to sit through a safety meeting because my coworker was drifting and doing donuts in a zoom boom on the ice covered fab yard.

I can neither confirm nor deny that I was the one who figured out full articulation and top gear with the boom extended 15ft made for some wicked spins. He was the one who got caught though.

I take a commuter train every day and the same thing happens. The most common offenders are generally younger folk who have not yet aquired spatial awareness.
I try to remain cool about it and remind myself that we were all pretty shitty and selfish at that age. I usually make the situation awkward for everyone by exiting with the same confidence that they have entering. If they look sketchy I just let it go, not interested in pissing off a crazed drug addict.

What's your biggest gripe about the lack of common sense? I could go on for days myself.

I'll set the scene. So last night I'm walking into the supermarket and clogging up the entrance is a young 20s male with his shopping cart behind him staging the scene for a selfie. I noticed there's a pet carrier in the shopping cart with a cat outside of the pet carrier and his paws up on the cart like he is also posing for the photo. So I purposely bump into the guy because he can't see me trying to walk into the store, you know because he's too busy staring at his fucking phone and documenting that he's taking his cat shopping in a grocery store, and say whoops didn't see you there as I walked past him. Yep, I'm that asshole.
