After some revelations I made last night I decided to forgo waiting for Jan to attend dry January festivities. I'm staring today (well technically Sunday 11/16). Not a drop since last Sat night. The holiday should be a good test next week at the in-laws in FL.

Good for you my dude! Please, hit me up if you even need to talk about shit.

I'm approaching 15 years sober, this December.

I started drinking when I was 13 and an alcoholic by 18. I quit shortly before I turned 28. By the time I quit, I was consuming a liter of Seagrams VO and 18 pack of bud light, everyday after work. Evenings also included burning through 1-1.5 packs half of Camel Turkish Golds. That was just Monday - Thursday... because I was a responsible drunk. Fri, Sat, Sunday, it was game on. There was a dash of hard drugs here and there, but my favorite poison was alcohol.

When I quit, I had to learn how to be human. I didn't know how to handle emotions or feelings or just day to day events. Everything I did revolved around drinking.

Had a good day? Celebrate with a drink or 12.
Bad day? A drink or 12 solves that, too.
Stubbed toe? I'll drink to that.
Bored? Nah, there's a beverage somewhere.
Christmas Eve? Well hell, let's get ripped and go to midnight mass with your bros.

I've buried several friends over the years. Others are so lost that they don't know they had died years ago. I don't know why I was spared, so I try to live as though I'm here with a purpose.

    Congrats on your journey!
And you're correct. You have to learn to jump over those hurdles without alcohol. Once you do it, then you re-learn a new life without it.

Haha. Only motivation I need is the reality check. I'm turning 52 in a few weeks so it's time I reel it in.

Got some Dad duty tonight. Daughter and her girlfriends all have tix to Billie Ellish at the Pepsi center. Leaving in a few hours to chauffeur the crew down and try and act like I'm not the chaperone. Should be fun for them. Me, not so much as far as the music goes, but it'll be a blast just to be there.

I test drove the 4th gen Tacoma tonight. Unexpectedly slow. I know from experience Toyotas get faster once they're broken in but the first impression is not great lol. The transmission's shifts were somewhat lethargic as well. You guys know I'm not like a lot of the third genners on here who feel the need to defend their generations honor so I'm giving a legit opinion. The truck that I drove happened to be a limited. I will readily admit that the ride was great, the seats were super comfortable, and the technology was fantastic. Honestly this is a real relief because if the new Tacoma felt like it was a fair bit faster than my current truck it would have made the decision to keep my current Tacoma a lot more difficult.

Damn it. You should go drive a Frontier. They're more affordable too!

I actually drove a new frontier and the powertrain felt very similar to the current Tacoma AKA mushy and unbothered.

Huh. I thought it felt much smoother, but I was also towing when I drove it. I just hated the ergonomics.

Congrats on starting the journey. Lot's of great advice and positivity coming from everyone. I'll add one small piece, if you stumble for whatever reason, don't let it push you back into a spiral. Act like it didn't happen and keep on chugging along with your goal.

Just imagine how much more awesome sleep will be in a week or two. When I was boozing, I had the shittiest sleep imaginable and was always tired.

    Yep.

If you don't make it a month, you can always hang your hat on " I only drank one time this month" or whatever it ends up being.

It's not an all or nothing thing.

Ok @OldGuy03 , enough sober advice from me for one day. :D

So strange...I've always felt like the OEMs have a "baseline" program that the vehicle starts with before it learns your driving habits that is more aggressive and with better shifting.
