What? You eat JITB tacos. Those can't be less fat than a 16oz ribeye.

On a lighter note, I arranged to break ground tomorrow on my off grid property for a septic tank. Once that's in, work will begin on my year round single story cabin. 800 sq ft. Got a contractor who's built a few in my area. Waiting on pricing to get a well drilled and propane tank install. Lots of folks start out with cisterns. I'll install all the solar. Permits will determine when everything comes together. Paid down all my consumer debt Friday. Great feeling. No more truck payments.

Sal's Diner in Soldotna, AK had a killer $10 ribeye steak and eggs. The ribeye was cut thinish. Not a 16 oz. Bliss
    Alas. Covid killed Sal's.

Similar trick is to use a stick that will teeter them into the bucket. And fill the bucket with water. They'll drown. We do this at river camps all the time. Always get one or two every time we set it up overnight.

Seems like the general perception is that NASA has fallen quite a bit. Maybe that’s wrong because where their efforts are focused is classified? No one is contesting the feats of the Apollo program. It also happened more than a decade before I was born. I just don’t hear much if anything about NASA these days.

What I do hear a lot about is a hyper-focused autistic memelord running 6 multi-billion dollar companies who just rescued stranded astronauts from the ISS, gave satellite internet to stranded hurricane victims and their rescuers, and caught his own massive payload rocket basically with giant chopsticks.

True. Boeing is the outfit with problem. NASA is busy with the Orion project which is huge and no doubt costly. Times have changed and there are multiple players involved with many smaller projects. BTW, the ULA Atlas 5's were reusable. The Vulcan Centaur will also be reusable. There have been several successful Atlas launches. NASA's SLS booster dwarfs anything ever attempted payload wise. Massive =big bucks When I see Musk put a human on the moon successfully and that human is returned successfully I'll give credit when due.

why is putting someone on the moon a goal?

    it's been done...in the 1970's.

    nothing since.

didn't one of those rockets use the old Space Shuttle motors?
they grabbed them out of the mothballs.
    is that innovation?

A 20yo company catching its own 232’ rocket in midair for reuse is impressive. Full stop. Credit due lol.

Is it as impressive as multiple manned missions to the moon with the astronauts returning safely? Nope. But those were 60+ years ago, and no one could recreate those missions right now. To me, it’s a strong indicator that we are a society in decline.

Why, decades later, are we not even more efficiently going back and forth? How do we not have a lunar outpost similar to the ISS dedicated to research? Just one guy thinking out loud; maybe it’s due to too much power struggling here on Earth. A decline in STEM field participants. People having fewer kids almost everywhere in the world (meaning fewer brilliant engineers).

Cost is probably among the biggest factors. Reusing the same multi-million-dollar rocket over and over again seems to me a pretty giant leap in making it more cost-feasible.
