Years ago when all the friends were married but without kids (remember that short happy window of life!?) we were making dinner for two other couples. One couple couldn’t cook microwave popcorn so we assigned them beer.

Someone assigns you beer for a 6-person party and everyone is drinking…How many beers do you show up with?

They showed up with a warm half-rack of Corona that already had two beers gone. So ten beers total. Then that fuckstone had the balls to ask me for the remainder when the night was over…cuz we drank my cold beer all right. Told him Fuck No.

Then pretty much ghosted his ass…

 

Werd. Our larger group knew all about these two. When we told that story Everybody said “at least two 12-packs”!

 

We used to do family dinners with my dads family every Sunday, for like 40+ years, even before us kids were born(3brothers and us kids) my one uncle insisted us cousins putting one on in the rotation…….. as we see “the great greenbean hand off” in our front yard trying to act like his daughter actually cooked them!
Hahah I’d also chill and serve the shitty beer they got me for my bday or the last time they came and didn’t listen to any of the suggestions. They usually only drank one!

To solidify how 100% justifiable your response was, even I know that was a shit bird move on their part. I don't drink and I would have brought at least two 12 packs of the group preferred beer and another 12 pack of whatever water the one or two guys/gals in the group insist on calling beer. That gives everybody a 6 pack if there are two that only like water, or 4 each with two waters for everyone.

 

Now days, no. It was purely hypothetical. However, when I was younger, which would have fit the timeline of married with no kids originally laid out in @Green Thunder 's story, I did go to a few get togethers that had booze. They contributed to why I avoid it and don't drink in my older years.

It's kinda like how your dating standards change over time. I used to be able to tolerate smoking, a little drinking, or even kids from a previous relationship. Now all of those are deal breakers, with the exception of if the kid(s) being old enough and on their own.
