It won’t have enough traction to catch up to me on the street. At our elevation, that Demon is probably mid 9’s

On E85 with a 3 liter SC, I don't think it gives any phucks about elevation. I'll never know, though.

If I can afford $80K for a toy, I can afford to get it fixed if I need to. Hint: I cannot afford this, thus I drive a Toyota.

I'm pretty sure that is every single person who ever visits Costco. You always get twice the amount of stuff you planned because there is always something that jumps out at you.

Not I. I don’t have the patience to shop. Went there a few weeks ago with the wife. She knows with me, we are to get in and gtfo. It’s rare will I go to a “grocery store” as I can’t stand how people just move like slugs, and stand in the middle of an aisle way. Get in, get what’s needed, and get out. This is why she goes by herself 99% of the time lol

And I'm sure she buys more than she initially planned. This is the way. I have spoken. :p

We actually do really good but I’m always tempted. Today was just groceries that will last 2+ weeks. Sure there was a dress for sissy and some educational books but all stuff I would have bought elsewhere for the kids.

If you can afford $80K for a toy, you're probably smart enough not to buy something unreliable that needs fixing. I also drive a Toyota, so obviously I'm smart but not smart enough to afford $80K toys.

Full disclosure, this would be my $80K toy:

which I would then use to do stuff like this:

My wife can do that in any grocery store, which is why I do the vast majority of the grocery shopping. Our pantry is slowly filling with half full containers of snacks that she bought because she thought she wanted them and won't finish.

I’ll never own a boat. I’ve just seen people dump so much money into them not including accessories. My neighbor dropped $10k into his stereo on the boat

I find it hilarious that you wouldn't buy the dodge because it may cost many down the road, so you suggest a Bust Out Another Thousand instead. I'll take my V8 powered land barge and you can have your wave skipping jet. We both win. :D

We have lakes here, but I mainly wanna fish, I don’t want to spend over 1k on a little aluminum with a trolling motor, that’s all I need!

Believe it or not it was actually my first time making a fire out on a lake. I made sure to put some thick chunks of firewood as the base and then built the fire on top of them so it wouldn't snuff itself out and sink in the snow right away and it actually worked pretty well.

Also as a Eagle Scout, I fully approve road flares and mapp torches for lighting fires, I was kinda brought up on it, add a leaf blower, and you’ll never be cold!

I honestly thought the same until I owned a boat and was involved with family who owned boats. A jet boat like I posted above can get expensive to run if you run skinny water and bash it off rocks, jump gravel bars regularly or otherwise drive like a hooligan. Sure, there's some maintenance parts like wear rings and impellers which need replacing but think of them like doing brakes on a car. For the most part if you don't abuse them they're actually cheaper than a sports car. Fuel is the most expensive part.

Aluminum fishing boats like a 16 - 20ft Lund or Crestliner with a Mercury, Yamaha or similar outboard are pretty cheap to run especially compared to a sports car. They sip fuel comparatively speaking, maintenance is basically winterizing, spark plugs and oil changes. The rest of the boat is no different than a car: metal exterior to wash, vinyl/upholster/plastic interior. It has fewer gauges and electronics than a car.

Obviously you can go down the rabbit hole of trolling motors, chart plotters, fish finders etc but none of those are really recurring costs of boat ownership and are totally optional.

Now, where you get expensive are the wake boats, ski boats, race boats and tournament bass boats. These boats are run hard which means more maintenance, more fuel and often more damage incurred. They're more expensive up front and often a style statement too. I mean, like @T-Rex266 's friend did you can put $10K stereos into them (which you can do to a car too btw). I would never own a boat with a stereo, never mind an expensive custom stereo. I drive boats to fish and get away from noisy people. Wake towers, weight systems to improve the wake etc all add complexity and expense.

If all you want to do is get out on the lake or river and maybe catch some fish, boats aren't expensive. If you want to drive fast or do skinny water river shots, then you'll need to pay to play.

Fiberglass boats are a different ball game and saltwater boats are where the maintenance gets much more frequent and pricey. I don't touch either of them. Of course, once you get into the bigger 24ft, 30ft or larger boats you're playing in the big leagues for money too. Again, I don't touch those (unless someone asks me to come along for a ride...)
