Man, my wife and I were riding a new trail here. I went over a platform a lil to fast, went over the edge and landed the wrong way about 4 ft down. Concussion, broken collar bone and a couple of busted ribs...

Those help, but they won't save a collar bone. Also, I have a downhill certified full face helmet on and I still had a major concussion

yeah thats the other thing. You can't wear gear like that when you have to slog 1200' of elevation just to get to the fun trails. that gear is only for places with chairlifts or shuttles

passed a guy a few years ago while i was riding the colorado trail from molas pass down to durango. it's just over 30 miles with the elevation hovering around 11k. he was in full dh gear. the last 5-7 miles or so into town is really the only down part of that section. i couldn't imagine spending an entire day riding at elevation in that gear. let alone trying to breathe through a full face helmet.

this summer i may think about wearing the knee pads while on the trail bike. with the amount of climbing i do, i find it hard to pull them on. yea, i could put them in the pack but then i'd have to stop to take them off.

poc has a set of really good trail pads. I don't mind wearing them for 2-3 hour rides, even when climbing

and Fox has a new full face that DH certified, but made for trail riding. 790g and lots of breather holes.

the gear has gotten way better. On my normal 2 hr enduro rides I'll do about 10 miles and about 1200-1500' of climbing and I don't mind wearing knee/elbow and full face helmet for the whole ride.

But full armor? No way man. Only at the bike park

i switched my poc DH pads to seven. i like them a lot more. i'm going to have to try something. having missed riding most of last summer due to hand surgeries, this one is going to get crazy.

Exactly. fck that I don't trust drivers. Not to mention its still pretty easy to go over the bars and break a collar bone on a road bike. The nurses tell me thats pretty common too. I think flat dirt trails are probably the safest.
