I gave my dealer the TRD lift p/n shown here and just got the response that 'it shows for 2023 model, we don't recommend installing on 2022'.

Update video a couple of days ago: it wasn’t Toyota that denied the claim but the dealer, the guy got another dealer that will cover under manufacturers warranty. https://youtu.be/Auf9kvRcFQA

This won’t be the end if the root cause is not addressed.

It doesn’t sound like him or the dealer who agreed to fix the truck realize that.

I may be missing the root cause, but he seemed to say that they'd fix the drive shafts? I'm not sure of the nature of the fix: for example replacement or changing for the longer drive shafts. Did you mean something beyond that?

No manufacturers warranty can cover/replace anything that’s not already on the vehicle when it was purchased new.

Accessories/parts that are purchased and installed at the dealer will only have 12 month 12k miles warranty.

In his case, the dealership can not file a warranty claim on original driveshafts with longer driveshafts or add anything else as a “fix”.

I live in the same town as the Youtube guy and whats funny is when you go to Kendall Toyota in Bend, all the trucks their salesman have have atleast a leveling kit if not a full blown lift kit, I bet their warranties aren't voided.

Good luck arguing that in court when the vehicle is modified and he publicized the fact by posting video on YouTube.

Manufacture has to show that the modification caused the failure, which Toyota could argue it did since the lift kit they sell contains new front axels.

Its the risk we take when we start to modify vehicles that fall under a manufacture warranty.

I bet that would be mighty easy for Toyota though since they probably have the entire truck modeled in some CAD software and could run an FEA in 10 minutes.

A hundred times I've seen the "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act" brought up here and while you are all correct the problem lies in getting it implemented. Every dealer knows this and also knows you will need to take them to court to have it enforced. Toyota, and to a lesser extent the dealer, have lawyers on staff. You don't. They have the ability to have your complaint run for months if not longer all the while you're running up legal costs. Then, if by chance, you win your case the legal fees you rang up are almost certain to remain with you. Having the defendant, or loser, pay the legal fees is almost impossible. The Magnuson-Moss Act is great on paper but rarely used unless you're fighting for many, many thousands of $$$.

I live in Bend as well and don’t deal with Kendall Of Bend other than recall stuff. I tried to go through them for my 2021 and 2022 and even had a friend and family type deal. I would have had to wait 6 months but I got lucky and found exactly what I wanted at Lassen. Got my other truck in Eugene. Service dept here is lacking and parts dept is the same.

    I disagree.

We are talking suspension parts. After market parts that affect the end use of the vehicle. If the manufacture can say, Hey these parts that you installed that are not OEM affected the drive train on the front axels, than why should they warranty the parts?

I have seen people post about removing a tune, or other part before taking their vehicle in for warranty work, why? to avoid the dealer saying nope not covered due to your after market part.

So we have several choices, wait to modify until the manufactures warranty is up, or mod away but be prepared to pay out of pocket for any repairs related to the mod.

The magnuson/moss act protects both the manufacture and the consumer.
