I'm looking for some advice so I'll give you truck experts the long-story-long version in the hopes of getting your honest input.

My wife and I just bought a house so I'm thinking now is the time to sell one of our compact cars and buy something more practical. We want to eventually buy a travel trailer so I'm looking at full-size, body on frame 4x4s. I was thinking a pickup truck but my garage is only 19'3" long, so I'd have to park it outside, which led me to look at full-size SUVs as well. I'm in Canada, by the way (so don't freak out about the prices you see below).

Options/Features that are important to me:
    Running boards
    Heated front seats
Ability to tow a decent-size travel trailer (~25-30', say ~5000+ lbs.) through the mountains in the dead of summer

After months of research, I essentially have it narrowed down to 2 vehicles (everything done based on 2019s for simplicity, though I'd be open to a new 2018 if I can still find one once I'm ready to buy):

    Option 1:
    Sequoia 4WD SR5 5.7L
    Standard Package
    ~$69k

    Option 2:
4x4 Tundra Crewmax LTD 5.7L (Note: I went for this because the Toyota website seems to show that to get heated seats in an SR5, you need the TRD Pro package, which is ~$7k more)
    Running boards
    ~$64k

    Other considerations:
This vehicle will be my daily but my commute to work is ~15 minutes within the city. Also, we do quite a bit of camping in bear country so, during the period of time before we get a trailer and are still tenting, I would get a canopy if I went with the Tundra (also to maximise space and avoid needing to shovel out the bed when it snows).

    Advantages of the Sequoia:
    Should fit in my garage
More room for passengers (the wife and I are only planning to have 2 kids but with an SUV I could theoretically take up to 7 kids somewhere vs. 4 in a pickup)
More space for stuff that you want to transport in the cab - large electronics and other sensitive/delicate items, groceries, etc.

    Advantages of the Tundra:
    More space for gear/hauling stuff
    Easier towing
Lower price and lower interest rate from Toyota's financing department - price difference is more like $8500 once you take the financing into account

If I can find a decent Sequoia forum, I will also post this question there just to get some different perspectives. Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you have kids or planning for children in the future? If so children's stuff takes up room, strollers and toys for example.

I would go with the Tundra. More cargo space and towing capabilities. Most importantly buying a house, now you'll need things for that, home improvements, lawn mower and those Home Depot and Lowe's runs. Just my $0.02.

Good luck, you wont regret buying any Toyota.

I always go with the cheaper option so tundra it is.. But it all honesty with what you want to do camping and such the tundra is going to be the superior vehicle.

I looked at both, but the Tundra won me over. More useful for sure.

I'm going to lean Sequoia. I have 2 small kids with bulky car seats and a large dog, and it's a tight fit for everyone in the cab. Wife says I should've bought an odyssey, but I said if I did that I'd need to replace my car with a z06

How about 2 kids and a small dog?

Since we want an RV and my wife refuses to drive anything other than her Corolla, a minivan is definitely off the table for us.

If the kids are in booster seats (or completely out) vs infant or convertible (BULKY) seats, you should be good, IMO

Don't forget the Sequoia hasn't had any real updates since it came out so if you prefer newer designs/tech go with the Tundra. Don't like buying pre-owned?

Has the Tundra had any real updates since 2007, though?

No, I have no interest in buying pre-owned. I have yet to see many people selling vehicles that don't have any problems and, with my specific set of requirements, I think it would be very tough to get the perfect vehicle.

I looked at both when purchasing.

The Sequoia in higher trim models has auto leveling, some really nice interior features (now outdated) and had a really nice ride due to IRS.

In the end, I went with a Tundra. In my humble opinion, every homeowner needs either a truck or flatbed trailer for all the stuff we do in our day to day lives. Hell, having both is even nicer.

That's a good point. I think I might feel guilty about tossing a bunch of firewood in the back of the Sequoia, though probably not as guilty as I feel about tossing it in the trunk of the Corolla right now...

Something to consider, with kids and the Sequoia, most people fold down the third row and throw all the kid's stuff in the back but very few secure said stuff. In case of an accident, you will have multiple projectiles inside the vehicle.
With the truck you are more likely to secure the cargo. Or at least said cargo will fly off without hurting your family.
This and the versatility of the tundra made my decision.

I looked at both and went with the Tundra. I have had both a crew cab Chevy and a Suburban and they each had advantages. The Suburban carried more people comfortably, the truck carried more stuff. Even with the option of a utility trailer for those trips to the lumber yard, a truck is more convenient for carrying stuff. If you buy a truck you'll need a cap or good lockable tonneau cover in order to leave things in the bed securely.

We own both. We had the Sequoia first then got the Tundra. The biggest difference is hauling clean things vs. dirty things in the back. The obvious is the Sequoia can have more passengers. Also in the Sequoia you are 100% guaranteed your stuff will be dry and not too hot or frozen. Even the best Tonneau covers have a chance of leaking. Feel free to DM any questions you have.

I have both, in Platinum models. I have owned another Tundra plus two other Platinum Sequoias. If family is your end game and as a daily driver, the Sequoia is the way to go. If there is another family vehicle, do the Tundra. Platinum Sequoia has lockers, adjustable ride height and self leveling and a few other options.

She's already said she won't drive a "truck" (whether Tundra or Sequoia) so no worries on that front.

I have both, and you really can’t go wrong with either. They are both fantastic.

That said, I’d think you should be able to get a big discount on a Sequoia. They barely sell any, so they tend to sit a while.

Toyota covered in first 3 years of ownership. Mine failed after 13 years of daily regular driving use. Not bad at all. 3) Pioneer Unit - had to ship to Pioneer to replace Output IC - $45 (shipping) free under 1 year warranty fix 4) Pioneer Unit - Electrical feed back coming through speakers when accelerating. Fix was to check all wiring/tighten up/ make connections good again $42. 5.) Rear passenger door actuator replaced. Part was $287 with tax on ebay from Toyota dealer free shipping. 6.) Rack and Pinion, tow mirrors, shocks install, lifetime alignment - $1884.36
definitely the case for me. We’re updating our house throwing old carpet and foam into my tundras bed. Tons of vinyl plank boxes all hauled away with ease. I couldn’t convince my wife to get the sequoia but we will get a highlander for sure.
