No, but I also recognize the fact that the platform basically remained unchanged with any major improvements for capacity from 2014-2021. Meanwhile, others progressed ahead. And that was one of my main points.
Just because someone tows outside of the specs doesn't mean it's safe.... it simply means that they have done it. Of course, I'm going to trust some joe-redneck that overloads their vehicle more than I do the engineers that designed it and used standards to set their ratings.

And to be honest, this is how much I care about the published payload numbers. It’s a truck, do truck stuff. #2300#

His isn't... because it's Lariat that was bought since a business can't get the same tax write off on a car as a truck. AND his truck has a factory moon-roof, electric steps and all those other niceties that my simple SR5 would be killed by on payload. Face it.... unless you get a baseline SR, the Tundra payload pre-2022 sucks. I know it, and I bought it knowing it since at the time we weren't expecting to get a bigger trailer.
But one thing for sure... you fanboys are sure easy to get riled up-----

And people go out and do all kinds of things that are unsafe... does that make it suddenly "OK"? In other words... normal people do stupid stuff regularly.

Is math a subject that you have difficulty with? I'm pretty sure most people can add one number with 4 digits and another number with 3 and come up with the total.
And I've already provided proof that there ARE 1/2 tons out there that do. Sorry it hurts your fee-fees that there ARE trucks out there with higher payloads and makes you feel inadequate with a need to lash out.

There he is. Will the real Tracy Perry please stand up. Guess I’m dumb, a redneck, have hurt feelings and feel inadequate. You got me! Sometimes I get fooled into thinking people want civilized discussions. Duh, this is the internet! Keyboard warriors unite!! Bye Tracy Perry.

Just seems like completely wrong to me. My camper was a jayco 29qbs 7100 lbs dry 2 adults 2 children dog and bikes etc.. Had zero problem keeping 65 mph and with weight dist hitch setup correctly was still pretty level

Definitely not the backing up champion......looks like the trailer got jackknifed.

    oh it definitely has
Not by me though, not my trailer lol. Borrowed it for a roughly 3,600 mile trip. Did great despite gas mpg, but that doesn’t bother me like most. Trailer weight is 4,400 lbs alone. Wasn’t “overloaded” like Mr. Tracy assumed.

Damn that sucks. Very nice trailer too. Not an easy fix, but totally repairable. I would love to have a trailer like that if it were a gooseneck. I looked for one but....DAMN they were expensive even used. I also required 8K axles under it so even more rare.

Before this thread gets out of control, please be respectful of the site rules. A good tow debate is always welcomed, but calling people names is what gets threads shut down or people reply banned. I did a bit of editing and a few messages sent out.

Normally we delete "overloaded" pictures. I left the ones on this thread. Will vehicle operators get away with overloading a little once in a while? Maybe, maybe not. I'm also not sure on the information about the 1M mile Tundra operator stating he had 2600 lbs in his hot shot rig most of the time. Anyone that does hotshot knows that you are subjected to the same rules as any other commercial driver and DOT checkpoints are everywhere. Hell, I have been pulled into them a couple times this past year by my house. Technically I have overweight with my trailer since my GCVWR is 25300 lbs and I can be 27500 lbs with my setup (11500+16000lbs). I am never at that weight but that doesn't matter if you are in commerce (which I am not), but the questions are always asked what I am doing with my loads.

We have seen a few rear axle failures due to overloading, but most people are not going to be online bragging that they destroyed a drivetrain part or had a failure. Human nature. Hell, I just had my first failure on my Duramax in 5.5 years and just under 80K miles. It sucks but I'm not ashamed of it due to the use. I should probably go changed out my clutch fan instead of being online. :D

So please keep it clean (ish).

Towed our trailer to a nearby campground this weekend. I got passed by a couple other trucks towing travel trailers because I was only driving the speed limit but I could tell that they could tell that the Tundra is the Towing Champion.

    Nice! Congrats champ.

Just towed our camp trailer from WA to MT and you wouldn't believe all the comments I got from big rig truckers in awe of the truck's towing ability.

Saying one thing and actually doing is another. Not sure how he passed through DOT checkpoints that far over payload. Then again, a lot of hotshots run illegally too.

I don’t think he went through any checkpoints. Never did see any DOT numbers on his truck either…

The second million mile guy said he loaded his way over as well. He actually has DOT numbers on the side of his truck, so who knows.

Had to take my trailer to the shop today. I could tell from the swooning as she passed that one nubile lass was enamored with the Tundra's towing prowess.

Nope... I deal in the facts.. and the simple fact is, the 2017-2021 Tundra is FAR from a towing monster. It's adequate and has lower ratings than many of the competitor trucks.
Simply because someone has done something doesn't mean it's recommended. Hell, people hold M-60's in their hands and get away with it... then you have others that lose fingers... then you have those that like to play Russian Roulette. Me, I'll trust the Toyota engineers on what they say the truck is capable of doing.

Ergo my request about seeing it with the doors open and loaded with what. Other than length, you were easily within capacity loads empty. Loaded full with anything that it was designed to carry, you would be outside the capacity of your truck in most circumstances.

I think the point is, it will do what it says it will do and do it well. If you can't read or refuse to do research and look at the actual specs then it is what it is. All true as far as being unchanged for many years but that should be known also

I haven’t read the entire thread but has anyone posted the program Australia has to increase rated payload for some vehicles? They allow certain kits to legally increase payload, I saw it posted on here a while back. They do the same thing as many of us who tow - upgrade suspension, brakes, tires. No such option exists in the US.

Legal and logical are two different things... With upgrades CAN my Tundra safely carry closer to axle rating which is 900ish pounds more than payload rating? Maybe, but not “legally.”

Pardon the interruption, back to the purse-swinging.
