My father in law convinced my wife that towing a trailer even a short distance without a WDH with anti sway will end with you in the ditch. I'm not entirely sure why he's so concerned about it because his 2011 F150 should be similar in weight to a 2/2.5 gen Tundra and his trailer is only 21 feet and about 4200 lbs dry.

May be... but does that mean that his observations are not correct? I know the 2019 Tundra we have is SORELY disappointing when compared to newer trucks (or even the same year model).. even if you consider what they claim the "new" 2022 Tundra" is capable of (if you can keep it from blowing a turbo). Then you top it off with the extremely shitty IBC that Toyota has on the 2019 and is it any surprise that people may not be enamored of it. It may be an adequate driving and light off-roading vehicle.. but when it come to the nut-cutting many are finding it lacking in ability. The payload on the 2019 is really comical when compared to the competitors. My 2019 Camry 4 cylinder hybrid payload is close what my 2019 Tundra is within about 300 pounds of it - and when you consider the differences in the build and the vehicle that 300 pounds is ridiculous. To try to claim otherwise is a simple attempt at gaslighting. The Tundra has fallen behind in the 2019 style, and the 2022 has not really gained that much of an improvement.

My next truck is most likely a Ford F250 with the 7.3 gas engine.... if not a Chevrolet 2500 with the 6.6L gas engine. Don't need diesel as I don't tow heavy that often. If one needs to do REAL work with a truck, then there's not much choice out there. The Dodge has a great diesel but it's wrapped in a pile of crap. The other two major U.S. brands have more ability, many even in their 1/2 ton offerings when compared to Toyota. Toyota has rested on their laurels for a while.. but their current iterations of their 1/2 ton trucks have left some to be desired as far as long term reliability goes... which is really a pity.

Sorry.. tow likes a dream is when you have a 3/4 or 1 ton truck pulling it. Take it from someone who has done both with a similar load (and currently has a Winnebago 2401RG), there IS a world of difference between the two. You catch yourself a 20-40 mile an hour cross-wind and your "tows like a dream" is quickly out the window and it becomes more akin to "tows like a skittish horse".

Until you start looking at actual numbers that are "approved" with current trucks. It's still lacking when dealing with facts..... now when dealing with emotions it may be adequate.... but many of us like to deal with actual numbers...please feel free to show us ANY Toyota Tundra that has a 13,200 pound towing capability and a 2300 pound payload capability. Until then, I'll simply call bullcrap on your "towing champion" statement. I pull a 2019 Winnebago 2401RG and it's BARELY adequate for that trailer when the trailer is loaded. Let's not even get into the absolutely shitty IBC that Toyota uses.
I OWN one... and I've also towed with F-250's, F-350's and GMC 2500's as well as a fully equipped (for towing) same year model Ford F-150 and am here to tell you that if you think the Tundra is a "Champion" then you have VERY low expectations. To me a "pulling champion" would have a transmission cooler on it (care to try to defend the chintzy puck on the 2019 as a transmission cooler?). I've seen my transmission temps upwards of 235° in 4th gear on minimal hills running at 60-65 mph on a 87° day.
The Tundra is a decent truck, but 2021-2015 models are turds when it comes to towing by the numbers when compared to competitors. Hell, my 2019 Toyota Camry hybrid (4 cylinder motor) is within 300 pounds of my Tundra's payload. If you are goin to try and claim "but I have no sisues"... I refer you to the movie "The Long, Long Trailer". Just because they pulled those type trailers back then didn't mean it was safe. That's why there are numbers attached to the capacities of vehicles... and the Tundra lacks when compared to many others of the same year model.

sorry that facts interfere with bullcrap... but the facts still remain facts.
The 2019 Ford F-150 could be equipped to be a MUCH better towing vehicle than the 2019 Tundra ever dreamed of. Those numbers I gave were ACTUAL numbers from Ford. As the old saying goes.. wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which bears more weight.
If I had not already been into the Tundra for so much before the tree ate our Micro Drop and the other Tundra (most improvements carried over to the new oen) I would have gotten a different truck if I had known we would be getting the larger trailer. I always err on the side of caution and not ineptitude when choosing a tow vehicle initially. The simple fact was that the trailer changed to such that it needed something with a much better level of competency.

You can enjoy your truck all you want... but trying to fantasize that it is a "towing champion" just shows what a tool one is.

It's been longer than that since I've logged in last. You see, some of us actually do other things than spend all our time on the internet. My latest issue with my "great" Tundra is dealing with it's shitty IBC and the fact that it only, among several other tow vehicles, likes to overheat my trailer brakes when the gain is set at an adequate level to work the brakes. None of the other trucks I've used have done so (equipped with both factory and after market controllers). Seems that the local Toyota dealership determined that there was "no issue" and it "must be the trailer"... never mind that the Toyota is the ONLY truck it has issues with.

Still didn't see the real world door jamb sticker with any truck that has that configuration you speak of. Most of the "normal" trucks, Crew cab 4x4 for instance won't be able to sniff over 1600-1900#, much less the 2300# number. The Tundra is a comparable platform with current full size trucks. Your individual towing experience is not the yard stick for the industry, nor is any of ours. My experience sounds very different from yours towing a much larger trailer than yours.

Considering that the payload of the Camry is within 300 pounds of the Tundra... it would probably be just as reliable.

Yeah.. and have you actually put your trailer on the scales... or are you just going by the seat of your ass? You see, I've actually put my truck and the 2401RG on the scales... and was within about 10% of it's maximum capacity. I feel comfortable enough with it since I've been pulling travel trailers since the mid '90's.... but to try and claim that the Tundra is a "Champion" is pure bullcrap. It's not.

Sorry... I'm not going to run around and pull search for and photo a ton of 2019 door frame stickers.... I have enough faith (the same as I do in Toyota) that the data they provide is fairly near actual.
I DO know that a Dr. I do IT work for 2020 F-150 CC payload is about 380lbs more than mine, and he has no tow package on his.

There is a slight grade heading down to the road but definitely not a cliff.

Was there a mailbox attached to the tree that fell?

    2019 MGM TRD Off-Road 4x4
Must have been since the truck (with 4832 miles) was totaled out. Seems it wasn't as "tough" as it is made out to be, now was it? All over a little crinkle in the cab.
This is what replaced them... and it's marginal pulling it, and not really acceptable with 30-40mph winds.
As I said... I've been pulling travel trailers from the mid 90's... with a TV from a 1/2 ton up to a 1 ton... so I'm WELL aware of the differences in the abilities... and I'll freely call bullcrap when I see it.
