I saw this same truck at this same show a few years ago, but I didn't notice the 5th wheel hitch then; It's also from Ontario! It's got the 5.7L, which has plenty of power, but I've heard that Tundras can't town as much as comparable trucks due to the suspension setup...?

Tundra is light duty....Too damn heavy.

 

Fifth wheels aren't really for any halfton due to the high pin (hitch) weight.

 

Well, from what I can tell, these people pulled the camper in the pictures all the way down from Canada with the silver Tundra!

 

That's scary!

 

Also, I met this guy in the spectator parking area at a car show on sunday; He had a red 2014 Tundra Double Cab SR5 4x4 with only 60K miles. It was totaled due to extensive damage on the passenger side, and he bought it cheap at an insurance auction. Unfortunately, he didn't have any "before" pictures, but he was a body tech by trade and was able to repair the truck without replacing any body panels. He admitted that he had to use an extensive amount of bondo, but he really did do a good job. The truck had no frame damage, and the airbags did not deploy, so it amazes me that the previous owner's insurance company totaled it; Though the truck has been inspected and is now 100% safe to drive, it still has a "rebuilt" title, which absolutely craters the resale value regardless of how severe the damage was. The owner loves the truck, owns it outright, and has no plans to sell, but he estimated that could probably get about $25K even with a salvage title; Around here, the same truck (Again, 2014 Double Cab SR5 4x4 with 5.7L V8 and only 60K miles) with a clean title would easily be going for $32K+ at dealerships in my neck of the woods! I will post pictures of the truck when I get home tonight!

 

I certainly thought so! I have seen compact pickup trucks pulling custom-made lightweight 5th wheel trailers, but I would never pull a tandem-axle 5th wheel camper with a half-ton truck!

 

OMG! THEY'RE GOING TO KILL THEMSELVES AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO HAS THE MISFORTUNE OF SHARING THE ROAD WITH THEM!!

I Kid, I wouldn't pull that either. But I recall people pulling 5th wheel campers (and all kid of heavy stick and tin bumper pull campers) with 1/2 ton trucks back in the 80's. I just don't recall too many 3/4 or 1 ton trucks back in the day that weren't farm trucks. Granted, they weren't rolling 85 down the interstate either.

 

+1, if you are going to tow a 5th wheel then by a 3/4 ton minimum.

 

For those who love the numbers, this is the most likely Columbus floor plan and weights:

It's a guess of floor plans, but above is the shortest and lowest dry weight Columbus 5th wheel according to the website (2022 models).

 

I mean, a 2nd Gen towed the space shuttle...?

Yeah, I wouldn't buy this truck just because it was used to pull this huge trailer...
