I would buy a 2018 NON-Flex Fuel (they are few and far between) if I were you. In fact, I'm seriously considering trading my 2019 Limited for a 2018 SR5.

The question seems to be coming from the Ford/Chevy/Dodge mindset. All Tundra years are good in comparison.

I agree on some points that I like that my 17 doesn't have some of the safety BS an idiot proofing that the newer ones do.. They are all a great reliable trucks. I think it's usually good practice to get as new as you can reasonably afford. Unless you just like older stuff..

That idiot proofing annoying lane sense has forced me to stay in the lane. Sort of a test to see if I can drive 120 miles without the thing chirping at me once.

The lane sense annoys the heck out of me. I've driven for over 40 years without running off the road. I'm not worried that I'm going to suddenly start doing that. I am VERY thankful that I turned it off ONCE and don't have to worry about it anymore.

I went with the 17. Didn’t want the TSS but wanted the bigger fuel tank.

Tss does not bother me at all. Can turn it on/off on the steering wheel. I leave the collision avoidance on all the time. It never did anything. assume it will work when needed. No good way to test it.

I leave lane departure off most of the time. If going on a long highway trip and feel myself zoning out Will turn it on.

adaptive cruise is good in heavy traffic. Prefer straight cruise for long distance. But can choose which one you want. Just can’t toggle between adaptive and normal with out turning it off/on.

They tend to have more electronic fuel ratio glitches. And they can cause issues if one were to supercharge.

I would buy a 2018 or before. They have transmission coolers and the 2018 has the Toyota Safety sense. Even if you don’t use it, it’s good to have. Saved me from a front end collision while I was looking for something in my center console!. It started beeping loudly and when I looked up, I hit the brakes real hard and got lucky. I also like the adaptive cruise control feature.

I dont know a whole lot about the earlier models but I'm really enjoying my 2020 SR5.
The Tacoma I traded on it had the push button start and I hated it. (Im old school) I prefer a conventional key to turn.
I just added LED headlamps and those made a huge difference.
The trans cooler was an easy job and was done before I had 2500 miles on the truck. Temps hover around 175 now instead of 225.

I turned off all the annoying nannies via Techstream... so I dont hear beeps or annoying warnings anymore.

I like that the 2020 models also did away with the radio antenna in the RF fender. The shark fin on the roof looks much better and still gets in my garage with 3" lift and 35" tires.

I think all the Tundras have pros/cons but have gotten generally better with the newer models.

What years have the power rear window (One over the bed) that goes all the way down? Sr5 crew max.

That feature is what sold the wife immediately.

I would love to get a 2017 TRD Pro crewmax in cement. Love that color. Was hoping the 2021 pro was coming out this year in cement but that didn’t happen.
