When you state both feet do you mean a left foot braker? If so, how can you tell. I had a neighbor that did that and I could tell by him driving up the hill away from his house with the brake lights on and how often he complained about his car eating brake pads.

Back on topic: My 21 downshifts going down hills and while coming to a stop. I don't find it excessive nor annoying. One positive feature is the transmission is in the proper gear for the vehicle speed and if or when I do apply throttle it doesn't hesitate searching for the best gear like older automatic transmissions did.
It would be great if another local member could meet up with you and the two of you could compare trucks.

Mine is flex and has never done it. I rarely drive in dense traffic though. I think if you do drive in stop and go traffic alot, the ECU is trying to optimize for that style of driving. It downshifts so you don't need to use the brake so much.

I have sort of the opposite issue, actually. I guess I drive so leisurely most of the time, that the pedal response became very non-linear. Like, the first 3/4 of pedal travel only got me 1/4 of the throttle/engine and the last 1/4 of pedal travel got me the rest. I bought the cheapest Hike-it unit to fix that... but I don't think it can be used to make shifting less aggressive.

I have been frustrated with not being able to truly coast down a long hill as well. For a very long hill I will sometimes just shift into Neutral to force it to coast freely. I've read a ton of posts saying that you shouldn't do this because you might not be able to accelerate if needed, but in the situations where I do it, that is absolutely NEVER the case. I have never read anything that says this is damaging to the transmission.

Somewhere on this forum, I read that you can slightly depress and release the accelerator to make it truly coast in drive, but I have not been able to get that to work.

    Does going to S6 help?

Good point! I think I've heard that S mode doesn't use the learned behavior.

I haven't tried that, but would it still drag the engine? On a long hill, I want to truly be able to coast with no added resistance from the engine or tranny.

I don't know it there's a free wheeling one way clutch in that transmission. At least you should be able to keep it 6th. BTW, how far do you have to drive to find a hill, Biggest I've seen are boat ramps :)

LOL! There are couple of small hills (but big enough to coast down) in Mobile. But there are bridges with the downhill side of more than 1/2 mile. We have lots of rivers coming together into the Mobile Bay around here.
