If I pay $15k more for it now, and it's worth $7k more in 15 years when/if I sell it, did I really gain anything?

So the chevy’s you’ve owned we’re older. I agree they were reliable. My 97 silverado had 200k miles on it and ran great. Lots of little issues w it but it was cheap and simple to work on. had a 15 silverado, biggest piece of crap I’ve ever owned, they bought it back w approx 7k miles. I work for gov and we have a ton of silverados and f-150’s. Both have their issues. Research silverado fuel pumps. Almost s as lol of them in our fleet have had 1 or 2 replaced already. Generally at about 12k miles and they’re replaced under warranty, with the same part. Haven’t had any experience with the 6.2 engine. But the 5.3 with the active fuel management, never again.
Now my brother had almost the identical truck to me and put 78k on it w no issues before trading it for an f-250.
So, do a little more research on fuel pump before deciding.

I will add that I really like the way the Boss looks, stock. And it cost me a few thousand bucks to get my Tundra the way I wanted it to look. But I still do it all over again if God forbid my Tundra got totaled tomorrow.

    A bunch
Do you prefer sitting up a bit in the vehicle or sitting in the vehicle - this is a huge difference between them. The Tundra feels like a truck with sitting up and your elbows below you on the console or door, the GM's you sit in the vehicle with you're elbows up much higher. I hate that seating position and I jack the seat way up if I have to drive one, while the Tundra my seat is as low as it can get. There's also the off-center steering wheel that is just that little bit annoying, and the trailer brake controller being on the left and up high. These are the little things that could matter when it's a $40k purchase. Also the GM's are still wax coated frames which if you're flinging stones a bunch it creates an extra maintenance.

You raise valid points as well, and in the end, you are the one that has to live with the decision. Everyone else can spout off whatever they want because they aren't affected by it.
More questions, you said the chevy comes with a lift, but where does it start out? The trucks at work have abysmal ground clearance to start, but the tundra isn't terrible. Basically, does that lift actually put it up more than the tundra?
Also, the tire price you quote, is that for tires the same size, brand, and rating as what comes on the chevy?
Just asking things you may not have thought about, as you seem to really want the best for your needs.

Every truck has its pros and cons. It really comes down to what your looking for and will you be happy with. If you can live with the Silverado go for it. Does not matter what we say because the opinions will be just that opinions. Get what makes you happy. Worst thing that could happen is you sell it if it doesn’t work out

Yeah, I posted the exact configuration I'm looking for in an earlier post. And yes, that is a rough cost of what the same tires would cost. Truthfully I would probably go with a larger set if I bought the Tundra, but the cost difference would be negligible.

4.30 gears, 5.7L, 6 spd tranny and reliability done it for me. I don’t tow over 7,000 lbs usually. Not sure I would need a locker & it would depend on your needs I guess. Some people want it just to say they have it. Here’s what a guide to towing says: sounds like you have your mind made up though :notsure:C61AE01E-3F58-4B96-ADDF-2C2EE5404537.jpgEBCC7A0F-A075-413C-8987-5AA7EC3C5190.jpg 2CE550ED-7FF6-4DC5-B6E2-6F47C2136EB4.jpg

I like the GMC, I would like a AT4 6.2. all color match.

for me Toyota wins QDR and resale, GMC wins just about everything else at this point. but we are trying to compare a very old platform (in todays truck world anyway), vs a all new ground up truck what like last year for GM?

this is why Toyota needs the net gen, then Toyota can win everything HA!

Part of the reason I won't consider a Ford is I hate the way I feel driving it. I understand what you mean. The Chevy is pretty comfortable for me too. The Tundra is a nicer ride with more responsive steering, in my opinion.

I undercoat my vehicles annually anyway - I've had problems with Toyota rust in the past.

I agree. I just fear when Toyota does revamp the Tundra it's going to be a $70k truck for a trim level that has decent options.

no Toyota doesn't work that way. They don't price them at 70 then take off 15K when you buy it like GM.

They stay more regularly priced and then you get a smaller amount off and then more back on the back end.

both ways can work, just have to do the math.

I will be looking at the new tundra (if it come outs next year 2021 dec like is rumored at the moment) and the GMC AT4 6.2 like I mentioned before.

one of those two will likely be my next rig, although Im not entirely ruling out a new Yukon for some reason, the new ones look nice. 99% I get another truck though.

Implied no such thing about a Chevy not lasting 10 years. I did indirectly imply cost of ownership for 10+ years. I've owned a few vehicles over the years. Things change, quality changes. I'm simply not impressed at all with my boss's Chevy. He got the "offroad" package with Rancho shocks and new quasi offroad front coils. Still has about 4.5" of clearance up front. I drove him to the airport in his truck and I can attest the 5.3 ain't nothing like the 5.7. Cylinder deactivation flat out sucks too IMHO

I don’t like the trail boss as much as a sr5 tundra.
That being said, I would have a hard time passing up a good deal on a truck. If your company going you $15,000 discount.

Actually, Silverado is made in Michigan with parts that come from Mexico, the US, and China.

Tundra is assembled in Texas with parts that come from Japan, China, the US, and Mexico.

I should also add that the quality of manufacturing in Mexico is extremely high. I work for a company that builds automation for packaging, and we have found in real world experience that our partners in Mexico provide better service and support for our machines than what we receive, on average, in the US. The standards are higher and the education level for people seeking these types of job are higher. We're far beyond the point where American manufacturing is or even should be the standard.

they one thing I hope Toyota does next time around, is on the color match models, don't sprinkle in some shitty chrome thinking it looks good.

On my 16 platinum, I had to go TRD Pro grill, new mirror covers, new door handles, plastic-dip badges just to get it to be color match

and look bad ass with no chrome, if I do say so myself, HAHAHAHA

I'm having a hard time with the SR5 models - it seems I can get a package that will color match the rear bumper, but not the front grill and bumper end caps? Also it seems that this "SX Package" cannot be or is not combined with some of the higher level packages that include Android Auto and some other features I would like..

I assure you I've read all this - as an engineer, this is a whole lot of talk with very little actual data. I agree Toyota is extremely reliable. That said, I need more than some random person's opinion on an obscure blog to do an actual comparison. =(

    Tundra=74% US sourced parts
Sierra/Silverado= 55% US sourced parts.(lowest US parts % of trucks claiming to be American made)

Not true. "70% north american sourced parts"

North America includes Mexico and Canada.

Seat comfort and long term reliability for me.. Your going to keep it 10 years? I’ve owned 4 GM products in the past and am Jaded! 113,000 on me Tundra rattle and squeak free...and I live in Montana with poor roads and a lot of off road time.. never had a GM rattle free! Reliability just hasn’t been there! Maybe the news models are better? I understand though cause that Trail Boss is sexy!

GM if you want the most features. I got to say I miss the features of my GMC. I don’t miss the jerking of the power train when it would go from 4 cylinder to 8 and vice versus. The power of the tundra on take off is much nicer. I don’t like that there isn’t much for aftermarket parts for GM though. Was one of the bigger reasons I switched. My 1500 would get up to 24mpg on the highway though
