What if you got brand F from the start ? How much would you have saved on fuel then ? Just playing devils advocate.

    Boy, that's a lot,
Where can you buy gas for $2.00 per gallon?

Some would say it’s not worth it to spend even more on a less efficient vehicle, but I guess it depends on how much you’re spending in repairs to keep the F running.

My OP is a response to those who dump their Tundra for a domestic half ton because of fuel economy. No one seems to understand how truly small a part fuel costs play in owning and driving a vehicle.

I understood that and I agree with you . Unless you have enough money to pay cash for them but if you have enough to pay cash then mileage wouldn’t be too much of a concern .

that’s why I’m still pissed my daughter destroyed my 99 Dakota r/t in a accident . I love my tundra but the $600 a month payment would buy a lot of gas. The dakotas 11 mpg around town and 15-16 on a long trip never bothered me cause it was paid for. Paid for along time ago. Ran that baby got 21 years. Plan on keeping the tundra as long as possible. I use my Scion FRS manual for my 50 mile commute up work . I use the tundra on the weekend for fun trips. I occasionally take tundra to work . It did great in the recent snow storm we had in pa.

My Tundra was $45k. The competitors all wanted $55-65k for their trucks at that time, which would have meant it would have taken between 15 and 25 years to break even on the fuel costs at $1\litre driving 10k kms a year.

If that’s the price of them out west then I get that . Here the Tundras are about 10k more than a comparable big 3.
    When I bought my Rebel a TRD Pro would have been 20 - 25 k more .

Oh yeah, a TRD Pro would have been at least $65k out here. But I'm not a top of the line kind of a guy.

I thought that was the Rebels direct competitor ? I could have got a Tradesman for under 30k here but it didn’t have anything for options .

I'm not entirely sure what the Rams run for because their build and price website is painful to use.

I’ve only used that sight twice , once for a TRX ( out of curiosity ) and once for a Longhorn .

Check the build link in my signature.
    TL;DR the thread
I showed my wife the same math when she talked about getting a Prius right after we paid off her Mazda CX-9 that got 24 mpg (the way she drove it)
We kept the CX-9 for 6 more years (including my oldest kid driving it for a year)... and still don’t own a Prius.

My solution to the Tundra mpg “issue” was just to make sure my new one had the 38 gallon gas tank.

I don’t think they’re issues, no it’s only a 300 fix for bed bounce. CB shackles. Check out my build thread. I know a tundra, and I know it’s faults.

The mechanical engineer who said that has clearly never owned a Land Rover! I couldn't be happier to have parted ways with that brand. I averaged around $280/mo for maintenance on my fully paid for rig for 30 long months of ownership (or 29 months if you give me that month 1 was my honeymoon month). IIRC I had four repairs that were over $1K apiece before I finally called it quits.

As to the Ford comment (above), my avatar is my response to that!

I traded a 2016 Ecoboost Expedition for my Tundra.
I got 14mpg in the Expedition. I don’t care about mpg. I bought a truck because I want to drive a truck.

Doesn't need it, who cares?, never had it, not with custom exhaust.

These are not problems, nor do they cost much to remedy if you feel so inclined.

This couldn’t be more true. I used to have an F-150 and spent a lot of time on the F-150 forums...searching and posting about all the problems I had only to find out just about everyone else had the same damned problems. It was basically one big support group and bitch fest.

To spend any time complaining about MPGs with any truck is futile. It’s like trying to live in a tent in Antarctica and complaining about the cold...

If you can afford to purchase a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton in today’s truck market. You can afford fuel and maintenance cost. I would think one will do research on purchasing a truck with options, mileage, maintenance with all manufactures before buying. So whatever truck you purchase. Mileage is a moot point.

Where can you get a legit trans cooler for under 800? I’m not sure I’d want the Frankenstein one they’re selling on the forum.

I just put @chasenicholas93 ’s kit in. Everything from the thermostat to the hard lines running alongside the trans and engine block is OEM. The radiator itself, its mounting bracket, the hoses that connect it to the OEM hard lines, and the small horn relocation bracket are aftermarket.

I didn’t think to order an OBD2 reader so I could properly check the trans fluid level at the correct temperature, so I’ll have to finish that in the morning when my cheap Amazon reader arrives.

It really is a nice kit. If you go to his site, there is a handy parts list for the OEM stuff you need. I found the best shipped price from McGeorge Toyota.

    EDIT: total price was $740
