I have filled it up once after the dealer filled it up. I'm also in and out of my truck about 5-7 times per day and since it gives a summary each time I have some data on mpg during break-in. Since the OP was asking about mileage during his break-in I figured I would give some data for him to compare.

Just completed a 1600 mile road trip and intentionally wanted to see what kind of mileage I could get. Kept it between 68 - 70 and finished up with 18.5 mph. Contributing factors were easy accelerations, tonneau, dual exhaust (not that this matters), and stock tires (trying to wear down the Dunlops). Not bad for a beast.

I have noticed that stop and go really kills the mileage on mine. The worse the traffic the worse the MPGs. Does anyone know how many gallons are left when the light comes on?

Lol I wait till I'm coasting down a gradual long decline and then reset the MPGs. Once it hits the 30.0 max mpg I take a pic and that's good enough for me for that tank.

so far the Tundra is only a couple mpg worse than the Tacoma. if you buy a truck with a big V8 and are worried about gas mileage maybe you should of got the Prius...

Fought with my wife, left the house and filled up the gas tank. After resetting the odometer, I started following a semi at 55MPH AND that's when I saw 18.5mpg.

That was the only way to get 18.5 mpg for me otherwise it's always been 9.5-10mpg

Welcome to the site. I know some people don't really care about fuel economy, but like you, I do. I have other expensive habits, so throwing money out the door has never made sense.

Is this your first truck with a healthy V8? Pretty typical fuel economy of 13-15 in traffic and 14-18 mpg on the highway with a stock truck, and a reason I no longer DD trucks. It is a personal choice, but some of us drive anything that doubles the fuel economy ratings of a truck. So what is your actual hand calculated MPG?

However there are things you can do bud. Here is a list:

-Alignment. I know it is new, but the toe in/out specs are pretty liberal on these trucks. I liked having my toe in at the minimum of .06*, and total of 12* or so. I spec is 24* total which is way to much for a street driven truck. Now if you were doing the fast stuff off road, we would have a different conversation.

-Tire pressure. The recommended tire pressure is 30 psi front and 33 psi rear. Put 38-40 psi in all 4 tires. That alone will help you out a lot.

-After the break in period, I have usually always dropped all differential & transfer case lube oil and put fresh new synthetic lube oil in.

-If you have a flex fuel truck, it could need a flash, especially if you are below 11 mpg on a stock truck.

    Word.

Everything you write cracks me up!

There's a ton of wisdom on this site. On many important topics, not just trucks. This is a perfect example.

    Drafting!

I'm thankful for good advice on many topics, including whatever the OP asks.

My 2017 5.7 DC is stock, about 1700 miles done. I've never reset and the best I've seen is 12.4 after 30+ mile trips. If I don't do one of those every 3 or 4 days, it starts to drop. That's based on the truck's computer reconning; I haven't bothered to pencil check it.

Best mpg I've ever gotten was 19.8mpg on a 324m drive all highway... That was going and coming... still had about a quarter of a tank left when I got home also which was nice!

Worst mpg is probably right about now at 10.8 all city driving... the hard part is gas is high in FL right now haha $2.65 tough pill to swallow... I know gas prices are higher in different areas too... but dang!

I try to make good driving habits... like being easy on the gas pedal... keeping it under 2k rpm when off the line... but its so boring... But when I gotta hit it... I hit it HARD! Lol but I watch my gas gauge drop in front of my eyes... and ask myself was it worth it... HELL YA BROTHER!!!!! LET ER RIP TATER CHIP!!! Love hearing her ROAR!!!

I get about 17.5 on the highway on trips in the Ozark hills. I get about 14.5 in the city. No complaints on either of these. I'm running 285/55/20's.

Gas quality has a lot to do with mileage. I was filling up at a local RaceTrac and noticed my mileage started slipping. I was making a lot of highway runs on family business (3 hour round trip in light traffice) and it started taking more and more fuel for each trip. I switched to a local Chevron station and the mileage went back up. I didn't check the MPG, just the amount I had left after a round trip. I'll stick with Tip Tier stations from now on. http://www.toptiergas.com/licensedbrands/

Mine had 1700 miles and I average about 13 but that is usually around town driving, the 4-runner I had before would get about 14/15 around town so not much better and with way less power.

Do you have a speed and odometer calibration done?? Cause if you don't the mileage might be a lot better than you think.. the miles traveled is very inaccurate when you put 35-38's on truck... I did a round trip the other day and mine was off So I'm getting that done next

@Lexaris1 not to be a dick or anything but if you wanted better fuel, you guild have got a Tacoma... Tundras are gas guzzlers with some serious power... 1-2 mpg better if you drive easy but hats about it...

True, I'm gonna do mine tho and check it.. it's about 50-90 off a tank. So that's like 1-2 mpg better than ju thought it was getting.. 10mpg is more like 12mpg
