I am admittedly old school, but I for the life of me can’t understand the complaints about the lack of tech in a Tundra.

I get in, buckle up, start it and turn on the radio. When I’m done, I get out.

My 2018 Silverado work truck gets a little better mileage, and is constantly in the shop. I don’t see any real difference in tech other than Car Play, which I could add by upgrading my head unit.

    >>>>>>People claim the Yota 5.7L is outdated. The current gen Dodge/Fiat 5.7L iteration came out in 2002, five years before Yota's but our version of the 5.7L is outdated? Having iffy sensors isn't what I call high tech either.

It wasn’t just the lack of tech with the Tundra but lack of comfort as well. Just running errands around town was kinda terrible. Foster dog didn’t fit in it very well and it was too big for a lot of drive thrus. Luckily I got sent home to work in March and I randomly stumbled across a buyer that paid asking with no qualms. It made sense to go ahead and get rid of it since I wasn’t commuting anymore. My biggest want for another “truck” was for safety on the road. I felt safe in my Tacoma, 4Runner, and Tundra. Didn’t feel entirely safe with my Lexus or Subaru, I love wagons but hate being on the ground. The new toy is fun and will hopefully stick around for many years.

I would offer this rearward perspective. My 1997 T-100, 4WD, with 263,500 miles has NEVER been back to the dealer. For anything. Ever. Just keeps on.........keeping on. Once more: EVER.

I went from a 2017 DC Tundra ( which I added a lot of mods) to a 2020 RAM 3500 Dually with the turbo diesel and Aisin Trans. Loved to Tundra and planned to drive the wheels off it, but moving from a Semi to Hotshotting and needed a bigger truck. Ram has a towing capability of over 30,000 lbs. over a 1,000foot pounds of torque. It is a nice truck, BUT it is not a Tundra.

That’s the first I’ve heard of the engine being outdated , everything I’ve read has been the interior was outdated .

You’re right. The FCA hemi is a pushrod V-8 and I believe the GM V-8’s are also. And the Fords well, they’re Fords.

Lots of comments here on the forum among other places about the 5.7L being outdated, not just the interior. I personally don't think so.

I had a 2012 ram I bought new. Just traded it in this year for my new tundra. Beware of the manifold bolts breaking on the Hemi. I would hope that issue has been resolved on the new ones but I had to have both sides of mine replaced. That is the only issue I ever had with the truck in 8 years. Every make has issues sometimes. I love my tundra and don’t regret buying it one bit. The lack of storage space is my only complaint. I wish I didn’t have to spend $200 to add storage under the back seat. I didn’t really like the new rams that much. And the massive screen is overkill in my opinion. Also don’t like the knob shifter thing. I think the tundra has more power for towing. But again that is compared to the 2012 ram and not the new ones.

Yeah, same here. A V-8 is not going to get super great mpg numbers. Most of the "outdated" comments I've seen were in regards to mpg's and how a twin turbo V6 is the way to go. I'm old school and think V6's sound like crap. Hell, I still like the old 283 V-8 and 5.7 is technically a 345 ci. The 345 V-8 has always been a strong motor whether pushrod or overhead cam. The old Scout II had a bitchin 345!

It says a lot when the biggest complaint about the Tundra is the dated design and lack of tech features. The Big 3 know they can never match the QDR of Toyota so they load their trucks up with all the latest gizmos and update/redesign their trucks much more often than Toyota does. They have to to keep people interested.

I actually think the Tundra looks great. Amazed as it’s been around so long. I think it looks better than the Ram and Ford and Chevy. Think the Sierra looks best followed by the Tundra.

If I had to buy another make truck for some reason it would be a Sierra 2500. They do look good.

I was thinking more along the line of an AT4 in white. Gotta have a proper Stormtrooper look.

The At4 Is leaps and bounds the best looking trim, I think. I was told by a sales guy (who knows if true) but that it’s been way more popular than the Denali which was always their most sought after trim he said.

Trd pro factory payload out the door is 1200 and I've weighed my truck. My available payload by spec is less than 1100lbs. My 8k trailer puts 1k lbs on my hitch with a weight distribution system. I'm basically over payload every time I hook it up. It's fine and I tow with it but I wouldn't go over that weight. I get that the specs are conservative but towing capacity is a crap metric. You will always run out of payload first.

I decided I don’t want the Hemi because the mileage won’t be much better. Don’t trust the eco diesel. Was almost on my way to buy a 6.4 2500 until I realized the back seat is 2” smaller than the tundra.

if I fill up and hop on the freeway for about 10 miles then park at work my average is around 13-14mpg. I went from driving to work 6 times a month to driving to work 20 times a month. It made me realize that gas is expensive.

I’m probably gonna wait until the next tundra comes out, then decide between that and a 2500.
