9 days so far. Did the insurance company get a rental for you?

Thanks for keeping us posted on this unfortunate experience.

It is So nice to have a community here.
The actual amount of care, questions a, suggestions and little jokes is helping my attitude so much. Thank you all my TOYOTA friends ❤
No. I don't have "Auto loss of use"
I actually canceled it, when I traded my 2500 ram in for the Tundra.
I put a battery in my 1989 4runner the other day, it started up, and just insured it.

I have had the unfortunate experience of having two total loss vehicles (06 Limited 4R & 2014 Tacoma Sport) and insurance paid out market value of the vehicles. I was actually rather surprised. The 4R was paid off with 105K miles and 8 years old and received 19K for it. We went and purchased a 2014 Tacoma Sport, paid off, 4 years later was totalled with 50K miles and received 28K for it after the deduction of 1800.00 for hail damage. We paid 32700.00 for the truck.

Toyota has the amazing resale value that might surprise you.

A bit off topic but related. I had a fire on a boat (engine room) that was extinguished fairly quickly by the fire surpression system. Didnt damage metel hardware, but melted all sorts of wiring, hoses, plastic and black sut everywhere. All in all > 100K in damage. Had imsiramce but they put up roadblocks every chance they could. Needed this, needed that, depreciated this, depreciated that, nickle and dimed me every chance they could. The whole process took a year and a half and they never did pay the final invoices. I ended up comvering about 15%.

I'd start looking for a similar vehicle for sale in the area. Once found, tell your insurance company that you did all of the work for them and you just need a check to purchase the vehicle. If you don't trust the Tundra anymore after your incident, simply sell the replacement. At least you will be done with the insurance company.

I totaled a Dodge Ram 2500 CTD that was 13 years old with 170k on it. Within a week I got a check for $13k based on book values and comparable replacements within the region. Start shopping now.

This. I have been down this road on a vehicle my wife was driving when she was rear-ended. The insurance company low-balled me on the value. I did a quick search for compatible vehicles available used and sent them the links. We wound up with a check for a fair replacement.

IM BACK. Insurance covered 41k, Gap insurance covered the rest. TOYOTA DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I even said.. .The least you can do is send me winter jackets and toques for me and the misses. considerin' its cold and there is no more fire to keep us warm(haha). They called and pretended to care once and a while. Literally did nothing at all. actually, they got sued by my insurance company. I do not know how that turned out though.

How ever... I have this now. Landcruiser Prado 3.0L Turbo and.. ITS A BEAST! Diesel20210131_111254.jpg

Sweet ride. I'd love to get an imported '99 Pajero 2 door diesel.

Did they ever tell you what started the fire?

No one has told me what their findings of the investigations were. although i pressed to find out, always got a "nothing"

The Pajero is awesome too. I am also kind of leaning toward a Jimny for a second vehicle..

There have a been a couple of cases similar to yours where fire seems to start on driver side near the firewall.

My opinion is it's not the booster, but from a leaking driver-side fuel rail connector on that side of the engine. If that connector (has to be faulty) leaks fuel onto the hot exhaust pipe below, there can be one heck of a fire. Pictures in another thread showed evidence of pressurized gasoline spray from that connector melting nearby plastic. Owner quickly caught the smaller leak, and saved the truck, but with damage.

Gasoline is really the only flammable near there that's volatile enough imo. Add the exhaust pipe/catalytic converter below, hot from your trip into town, and conflagration.

the insurance company wont back down. so in the end Toyota will have to defend the case but more than likely settle with a NDA. Insurance companies have lawyers employed it cost nothing but a filing fee for insurance companies to sue.

Anyone else get a fire risk safety recall for 2018 - 2021? "...the bulb connector could overheat to a level that can result in an increased risk of a fire that can propagate to other parts of the vehicle."

Had heard some talk this was coming. Basically don't leave your high beams on when not driving.

I just got the same recall notice. My truck hasn't seen a dealer since the say I drove it off the lot and it's been over 30K miles. It's shame I'll have to take it back to help prevent it from catching on fire.

I hope it works out for you and you get a great truck as a replacement. One question, was the truck serviced recently? A loose oil filter has caused an engine fire on a family members Chevy van. In some cases the oil filter can spray onto the exhaust manifold if the filter leaks. They are probably not looking hard for the reason as it did not look like arson so they would not take any additional action anyway.
