As soon as you start modifying things, it can happen. And sometimes when you don’t, and crap happens anyway. Sorry for your loss fellas. Hopefully insurance will cover it.

Drove 30 mins to the city all highway. Washed the truck at Petro. Got some groceries. Washed the truck again (for free because the first wash sucked). Drove home. Was inside the house for about 11 mins (i partially caught the fire on my security cam for timeline) and then took pictures with my.phone. fire looks to have started driver's side... like... by the brake booster ?

Freaky! I'm glad all is "okay" but I'm not sure what's making these trucks catch on fire after sitting...aftermarket stereo? Remote starters? Something in the column is the denominator it seems...

My 1989 4runner. Its fine. The siding is melted but thats fuck all. I have ZERO aftermarket parts. I literally have a $4000 cart on realtruck.com for stuff from THIS morning

Command start. Was on the truck when we got it.

    Damn that’s sad :(

Glad the 4Runner is fine, but the tundra being a total loss is a giant bummer

Wonder if it was a cam tower leak that started the fire? Hot exhaust & oil. :monocle:

Could be the aftermarket remote starter.

Thankfully it wasn't in your garage.

Agreed on both points. It’d be interesting to know if the other trucks in the thread were equipped with remote starts.

Sorry for the loss of your trucks everyone. So disappointing.

Buuut....he said that he has ZERO aftermarket parts on his truck... Not claiming that it couldn't have been a dealer installed Toyota remote start though.

A command start was installed before he purchased the truck (assuming he purchased used).

Yes second owner. It had appx. 70,000km. But really, the command start is the only thing in there. Compustar brand. Not sure what toyota uses. Just put brand new tires on it for winter :(
