I know this has probably been discussed somewhere before, but do you think multiple people and/or stations on the engine block line are responsible for the cleaning process as they come by? Maybe every second or third block gets improperly or incompletely cleaned by the person or station responsible for it? Maybe this would explain why not every block is affected?

    As I've long suspected.

Also, no mast mounted radial array transmission cooler.

The Valve Rocker Arm Sub-Assembly has a part number of 13801-F0010.

When cross-referencing this part number, it has been used in the following Toyota models: Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Corolla Cross, Crown, GR Corolla, Highlander, Prius, RAV4, RAV Prime, Sienna, Sequoia, Tundra and Venza.

It has been used in the following Lexus models: ES, GX, LS, NX, RX, LX, and UX.

The blocks are "washed" by machine and it has been said that the loop for the coolant used to clean the blocks was getting clogged and not cleaned properly. Administration was made aware of it at TMMAL and it took nearly 3 years for it to be cleaned properly and addressed on an ongoing basis.

They were supposedly cleaning it with metal coat hangers because they were unable to reach the clog <- 100% conjecture from an insider.

Just because Toyota said that the issue was resolved doesn't actually mean it was. That is why you were seeing failures well into the 2024 model year Tundra & Sequoia.

    Two questions:

    1. We have to assume the factory making the 3.4 in Japan was having the same issue over the same period of time given failures of those motors too?

    2. Why the changes to the 3.4 bearings? Have you seen or heard of anyone pulling a new motor apart to see just what all is different in the lower end? Just the bearings? Main bearing journals? Crank? Rod journals?

    Thx.

All Tundra, Sequoia and Lexus LX engines come from the Alabama factory (even for LX assembled in Japan). Japan-made 3.4 V6 are used in Lexus GX, and apparently these engines don't have the problem.

Wrong. The V35A-FTS (Type '21) for the LX and GX are 100% manufactured and assembled in Japan.

Yes. But because the volume isn't nearly as high on the LX, failures aren't/weren't as common. The LS 500 also had failures on the Type '17.
Changes are made all the time with noone the wiser. The timing is suspect but until we physically compare them, no one really knows the differences.

And there is someone who is not allowed on here that has a short block that is ready to be disassembled. Maybe they will get with The Car Care Nut and do a video about it.

There's the "hangover Monday" theory and "rush to meet quota" for each shift. I'll freely admit I didn't do my best work on a hangover, and rushed through things while my mind was elsewhere.

Until the warranty info is official, all of this is conjecture. But no, a 12/12 warranty on a motor that grenades anywhere from 500mi to 40k mi (and some beyond) is not a "great thing." It's customer abandonment and merely satisfying the safety recall that NHSTA issued.
People who went out and purchased a 3rd Gen were doing so under the auspices of owning "the next million mile tundra" not a rattle-trap shitbox with a motor that fails without warning.

How is the warranty info not official when they are sending people off with a new long block? Certainly some of those people are beyond 60k miles so the “new” 12 month 12k mile warranty is all they have. Seems that would make it official.

I was just referring to a statement issued from Toyota - which I haven't seen; not saying one isn't out there, though.

This seems to be first mention of debris beyond 2023. It looks to be Toyota official but I think it’s just a fb posting. (Might be related to rumored cease and desist te-he-hehe)
I didn’t catch anything in the NHTSA docs. Has anyone seen anything official?
