Agreed. I see tow hooks for TRD PRO and TRD Off-road models, fixing the various issues like wind noise, seat cracking, etc… and getting rid of the Hulk Hogan mustache in the Limited trim. I’d also think they would redo the bumper. I sat next to the designer who made that decision and I couldn’t stop myself from saying dumbass a few times under my breath.

After 18 months I'm above neutral on the Tundra but frustrated at the same time. The big stuff like the drivetrain, suspension, mileage etc are bang on and IMO best in class. The stupid stuff like the radio knob that falls apart, horrible infotainment and information display and some other things make me scratch my head and keep me from being a Toyota flag bearer. Hopefully, out of the pandemic fog the refresh will take care of some of the missing pieces.

The thing that would interest me—and it would interest me a lot—is a heavy duty payload package. Just give us the hybrid GVWR without the weight of the hybrid drivetrain, as Borla has mentioned.

Toyota loses So. Many. customers due to payload. Surely they’re aware?!
Has anyone bought an entire front clip from the Sequoia to put on their Tundra?

A few went the opposite direction with the previous gen…2014+ Tundra front ends on Sequoias…

Apparently the entire Toyota team in IT knows my name. I must be the only YT person who doesn’t fall over in love with the IT software. Not saying I’m amazing, but I had a word with MotorTrend when they gave Toyota an award over the software design. My friend at MotorTrend was rather shocked at my dismissing the “amazing system.”

I have to say I can’t believe how many people are so unaware on payload. Forum members are pretty aware. Shocking how much customers aren’t aware.

I'm just spitballin' here, but I'm guessing an overwhelming portion of the targeted market is not concerned w/payload :notsure:

Meh,we are on this forum because we either want to know more about our trucks or have interest to want to buy etc and have the luxury to research a little more - I would say its easily less then 10% of the tundra ownerbase that use it, there are so many other social media sites, forums were the thing back in the early 2000's fast forward 20 years now, well its not the "thing" anymore.

You should open your eyes and take it as any other person looking for vehicle A for whatever reason, this person is not well versed with all the issues plagued by the model or how the mfg is or isnt taking care of the situation.

My example is this, being in that exact same situation looking at random small compact suv, like a crv, tuscon, rav4, and found a escape as well that matched what our family is looking for. I am not going to go onto escape forums into great detail and read how Ford is or isnt taking care of them, I researched it for 5 mins and basically reads the exact same situation gen3 tundra owners are in, bad machining defects causes engine to blow up, its well known and went on for years, its now finally a customer service request and not a full recall, yet Ford offers 10/100k after engine replacement, this also spanned to 125k vehicles.

The shocking thing is its easily seen on the carfax, and of course the pricing makes sense, my question which nobody has answered yet is what is actually being printed on the carfax, and do you seriuosly think you will still get 100% correct market value when you go sell it?

Also luxury exotic vehicles that are mid engined have their planned maintenance designed to do that for those services - remove engine, the tundra is NOT designed to do cab off lifts for regular PM, this is not a regular service. Those are designed to do it for regular services, does not put it in the same boat as gen 3 engine swaps or cab off for this service.

I am a licensed mercedes tech btw, and your really not understanding the issue im trying to clarify. What is on our carfax, and has people dealt with diminished value?

You can love the gen3 all you want, we are on a tundra forum, I am just looking to see what people have written on their carfax after this recall.

Really think you answered your own question. You are not going to get low-balled. You’ve already been low-balled.

As you point out, even the least informed retail buyer just doing a google search on “202x” Tundra problems will immediately get info on the engine recall. My wife has no idea truck or car forums exist. She will still do her own google search and carfax on any vehicle she has an interest in purchasing.

The damage is already done. Seeing it on carfax won’t make it worse.

There were a couple of threads about the swap. If I recall, there was even a company selling a kit.

I contacted Carfax Canada to inquire due to well, pure curiosity.
What I got out of this at this early stage - is that it depends on what information is provided by Toyota about the repair/ rebuild/ replacement - whatever they are going to call it. I have not followed up with any Service Managers to ask if records are sent to Carfax. If you are affected it doesnt hurt to make a call to your Service Manager

Subject: CARFAX CANADA – SUPPORT REQUEST-
    Hello
Thank you for reaching out and your question.
To let you know that the Rebuilt Status or Branding on applies to vehicles that have been in an accident, deemed by the Province, to be unsafe to be on the road, going to a Salvage Branding, then once it's been repaired and passes Provincial Inspection and their standard that Title Changes to Rebuilt/ Rebuildable: Rebuilt (branding)
Now, having said all that there could be information given to us on a service record, if the shop in question is a trusted data provider of ours saying that they had rebuilt the engine and that could show on their service records, however, we will not know this in advance and each report is a snap-shot in time, and this will only be known to us once a report has been run.
Our commitment is to provide the most comprehensive vehicle history report in the country so Canadians can make better decisions about buying and selling vehicles.
To support this, we have access to billions of data records from thousands of trusted sources across North America including Canadian and U.S. motor vehicle agencies, insurance agencies, collision repair facilities, auto auctions, police departments and more.
So, what you can do is ask the Service Manager of the shop in question if their service records are sent to CARFAX Canada, and what level of details they provide in their service records to assist you.

This morning I remembered Ford sells a heavy-duty payload package for the F-150. I did a video on it and tried to find one, just one, a few years ago. IIRC I found like 2 nationwide. Extremely low volume take rate. I had a few viewers chime in that they had one. So, I’d suspect the demand just isn’t there for Toyota and others to follow suit. I don’t recall if Ram or GM offers one.

I dropped in yesterday to see if there were actually any new developments on this thread related to the recall. From what I was able to sift through,

there are no new recall developments,

people still feel wronged, bothered, bored, unmoderated, overmoderated, or opportunistic.

so everything still looks normal to me.

Yeah the F150 HDPP is rare and low demand because people just move up to a SuperDuty.

I’ve seen F150s with 2818 lb printed on the door jamb. Most are around the 1800-2k mark.

Not sure about Ram, but both GM and Ford offer 4x4 crew cab “half tons” with 2k+ lbs of payload.

This seems like a no-brainer for Toyota because Toyota drivers are loyal to a fault (look at how many people ignore payload ratings while saying “the tundra is actually built like a 3/4 ton!”), and Toyota would retain more customers simply by offering a high payload Tundra. Maybe it’s not very many customers, but as it is, Toyota loses them to domestic HDs.

I was going to make this same point. It makes sense for Toyota to offer it because they don't have an HD option.

Can you imagine the number of spontaneous orgasms that would happen if Toyota entered the HD market with a beefy V8?

I love this engine. It's an undersquare long stroke gas engine that produces max torque at relatively low RPMs and is really a gas fueled engine that was designed to perform like a diesel and should last a long time if maintained properly. Personally and this is just my opinion, I believe that the early engine failures were due to bad bearings.

Isnt there an engineering issue for heavy duty due to Toyotas decision to share the platform with smaller vehicles ?
The new Tundra frame is shared with Tacoma/4Runner/Lexus GX etc....
Tundra is the largest vehicle on the frame. The Tacoma frame is modded and beefed up for the Tundra.
The Tundra body panels overhang the frame alot. One of the reasons the cab size is what it is.
Lots of videos showing this. Google Tinkerers Adventure
Now the F150 frame as one example is in contrast to Toyota.
The F150 is the smallest vehicle on that frame. That frame is used to make heavier duty F series vehicles.
    Is this not true?

    Re:Hybrid
I think they need to add more aluminum and change the battery system (too heavy) more like Fords Hybrid (again) to cut out the weight and increase payload. But for me - in the end if they can't give me a 50 mile range... when I want it.... on battery - no pickup truck can yet. I am not interested. Battery tech is changing is so fast who knows. I am waiting on the 3.5 ......refresh not engine..... maybe having this capability. They can trump the others if they do this. But it means a total 180 degree direction change.
Lithium battery prices have come down so much. I just added one for my trolling motor and will be using it with my portable power inverter. I expect Battery tech to change alot of things and give us great options near future.

I'm not advocating for an HD on the same platform. The HD would need to be separate.

A beefier spring set for payload could be done on the Tundra, though.

I've always said this about my 3.5 Ecoboost, love how it tows. And I have to assume the Tundra is the same.

Wait, there are people who think the software in these is great? Even good? Are we talking about the same software that tells you every 30 seconds if it doesn't like something (low washer fluid, snow on a sensor, software update failed)? I'm willing to ignore some of the random issues I get (like the volume getting stuck in the main display), but the constant nagging from the software is one of the few things I really don't like. Not even talking about the phone app that is bad. The software that think my tailer is still there even after I unhook it (ok that goes away after a start or two and some driving, but still, it is another bug). Asking for my PIN way too often. This list goes on and on and has some real things that can distract you from safe driving. There are even bugs based on what is in the manual like you can't lock with the valet key and not set the alarm (it says using the physical key doesn't set the alarm, but it does and suck when you can't take your FOB in the water...).
I also assume software controls the throttle lag which borders dangerous.

Or is there some other software that is supposed to be great I don't know about?

I do really like my truck, but I would not say great software. I will say it is great that they tie most things to real buttons so I don't need to use the infotainment for them and I'm sure there is software behind the buttons and switches.

I went to this thread because of the Title about the engine recall.
I got my recall notice in the mail, and I Contacted the Dealer today, They said that they would place the order for the Replacement Engine today. Does anyone know how long it normally takes for them to receive the Engine from Toyota?

as a Toyota dealer in Texas, it is taking about 7-8 business days for the engine from the order date, we have 17 here at the moment, with that many more on order...

Thank you for the quick reply. I'm located in Georgia I hope it is just a Quick.

Funny thing Back in 2022 I wanted to buy the Tundra, here in Georgia they all wanted 5k to 8k OVER MSRP.
I went on-line and found a Dealer in Texas that would order it for me at MSRP no Greedy Markup!
I flew 1 way to Texas when my truck arrived for $99.00. I had a 2-day road trip back to Georgia.
