You have described my situation exactly. My truck is running very well currently, (55k) and while I know the failures can happen with little to no notice, I’d prefer to keep racking up miles and letting the process naturally work itself out for everyone’s benefit, including Toyota. If I received a new, re-engineered clean engine at say, 75-100k that was installed accurately and properly, it would effectively give me another 5 years of truck on the back end of ownership.

I believe the Master Tech requirement is for the short block rebuild process only ... I think any tech that completed the 3 CBT's listed can perform the task of complete engine replacement.

I’m just surprised there would be any non-hybrid vehicles in California to be honest. Might be easier to just move to Texas or anywhere else really!

I thought the overall recall to extend beyond mid-Feb 2023 production date. Seems that I read there are failures with later production dates. Am I correct?

Yeah, it's not like the Toyota dealers' techs have nothing else to do.

I’ve got a 2/23 build and not in the recall. Nowhere I’ve checked my VIN with and no Toyota associate that I’ve talked to has told me that it is or has plans to be included in the recall. Best I can get is “maybe a good faith long block if it fails, but most likely a short block replacement”.

6/23 build. Talked to the service advisor at length about the recall. As context he's a grumpy older gen 2 guy that doesn't like any of the newer Toyotas. They've had 4 failures. No zombie trucks sitting on the lot so they're getting repaired. No short blocks. No failures outside of the range at this dealer. Crabby as he was, he thinks it was a manufacturing issue and they corrected the process when they said they did.

Hard to believe because that would be less than the original powertrain warranty. When mine is scheduled to be replaced I'd still have 3 1/2 more years on the original warranty.

When my buddy had the head replaced in his 4Runner due to a factory issue they gave him a 10 year, unlimited mile warranty on the engine. The precedent is there & I would expect Toyota to do something similar with impacted Tundras.

This came out a month ago, I watched it yesterday. Sounds that Toyota is directing holes be drilled into the block and to each of the turbos. And scrapped locally after pictures sent to corporate. Thought I would share...

    Ugh. That is chintzy.

I will wait until 1 year before I trade it in. I have no evidence the new engine is better than the old version. I will not be self warranting Toyotas iffy engine

Some 22s maybe over 60k and already out of powertrain warranty.

1 year is a total joke for an engine swap

its probably like any other part, remainder of the factory warranty or 1 year parts after that.

they aren't going to shorten your powertrain warranty guys

That's actually Toyota's standard parts warranty. Sounds like you will be buying a new truck instead. Your salesman likes that.

If they don't give more than the standard one-year parts warranty that is more incentive to get rid of the thing sooner rather than later. I love my Tundra, but I am looking... Partly because with the lack of information they have given us I am still not totally convinced that they have this issue really figured out and even the new engines might still be at risk. And all the hassles, past and still to come.

I talked to my dealer about the engine recall. They're only doing one truck a week and are scheduling for the end of January. The swap takes a week, and my truck's running fine at 56,000 miles. Not sure if I want to replace the engine just yet; maybe I can squeeze some more miles out of it! #Truck #Recall #Engine #Miles #Decision #Mechanic

Sure some non Toyota salesman will be quite happy about the commission.

No powertrain warranty extension on an engine replacement is just shitty. Shitty treatment is quite easy to acquire anywhere .

I am Ok with a major powertrain recall if I am taken care of. Requiring me to self warranty any part of engine #2 because you fucked up engine #1 will put a company on my permanent no fly list

I have had recalls with GM and Ram. Not engine replacements. But warranty extensions have been standard. Reality is it is low cost customer support if you put in limitations such as first owner and with a reasonable % of failures costs are not huge.

Put my name on the waiting list for a new engine...woman kept bugging about not feeling "safe" knowing engine could blow. So much for extending this out as far as possible :(

The docs on NHTSA show the old engines are to be packaged in the crate and shipped back to a Toyota Engine Reclaim center.

I was able to dig up what I think is the document being referenced. T-TT-0766-24
    https://www.nhtsa.gov/?nhtsaId=11010344

looks like that is for short block replacements only. Since this recall is a long block replacement and has specific instructions, I’d imagine the recall long block replacement has to follow the outline procedures in the recall document, regardless of a blown engine or not. I could be wrong though.

All engines are being recycled. Toyota was unable to find someone who was able to "remanufacture" them in a timely, efficient manner. The shipping manifest is literally to a metal recycler in Dallas.
