I am, but with my dealership saying no, it gets me concerned. They also said drivetrain warranty stopped at 60K. I know if a recall is present it will proceed even if warranty has expired, will the replacement engines have a warranty?

Could you have a functioning engine, get a recall and a replacement engine and then have it go out and have no warranty if over 60k?

what anyone says here doesn't matter, its all hearsay and speculation , call Toyota corporate and ask them or call another dealer.

Manufs warranty their parts if installed by a certified mechanic, Toyota in this case. If you are over the 60k and you get a new engine, yes it has warranty. Just like if you install a battery, alternator, starter, etc at a dealer. The dealer/manuf warranties that product for X amount of time. The engine is no different. Now what will that warranty be, who knows. Could be a full 5/60 or could be a typical 3/36.

Most dealer repairs (parts and labor) are warrantied for 1 year from the date of service, no mileage limit. When my wife's RAV4 transmission was replaced 1 month before the original 5y/60k warranty expired, this is what I explicitly got from the dealer as official Toyota repairs policy document. I pushed back on Toyota corporate and they send me a 7y/100k extended warranty as "goodwill" extension. This effectively extended the warranty of the replaced transmission to 2 years, as the 7 years count from the date of purchase (not the repair).
However, if the engine was replaced under recall and it fails again for the same reason, it's warranty "for life", you could get a 3rd, 4th, n-th engine if needed - as long as you can prove that the engine(s) failed for the same reason as the original recall - which can be a sticky point.

Tried to go through the buyback process and was denied. 2022 tundra with 44k miles. Car is going to sit there until around March. I’m in a Highlander rental. Toyota corporate told me to eff myself when I said I needed a truck for work and to tow a trailer. Things have changed with Toyota. Before they would jump to help.

But we've heard that some members here have received new engines (not short blocks). Are these dealers just smart enough to go buy new chain at Graingers and fix the other issues that come up? I get it that Toyota wants to make the process as efficient as possible but it's not like a dealership hasn't replaced an engine before....

I am not reading it this way at all. Considering the cost and scope of this issue I think everyone is protecting themselves. Dealers are probably saying if you want us to do this work then our techs need the proper training and be signed off on this and as well have all the approved tooling in place to do it. Toyota Corp needs to provide all of that. Imagine each shop doing their own thing (even though they may have done a few in the past for other reasons) this is an entirely different animal now. No one is going to move unless all the chess pieces are on the board first and the rules of engagement are followed by everyone. Unfortunately the bigger you are the slower you move.

ya, they are not going to "stall" with documents in writing that makes them looks worse, lol. It's just a when it rains it pours thing with the damn chains.

the people running this probably had their head down on their desk like, Phuck, you have got to be kidding me when that came out.

Agree I don’t think it’s stalling either. The longer it takes the more it will cost Toyota. I’m not sure why there is a hurry on Toyota or affected owners sides (I am one). Obviously the focus is addressing actual failures as priority. I am ok with getting a brand new engine in 2027 when mine has 75k miles or more.

Good point, I'll wait for a while on the recall to not only let the tech's get experience but also to stretch out the date to a new engine.

We have the extended warranty, 10 years / 80k miles if I recall (it's a Toyota warranty, so my numbers may be off but you get the point). And I've now used 4 of the 7 Toyota oil changes with the 5th to come in a couple of months. The truck now has 26k miles, probably over 30-35k by the time the engine is swapped out. I sure hope/expect Toyota to make good on the extra $$ we paid for the extended warranty. If the new engine comes with the standard 5 year / 60k mile power train warranty, that just about equals what we paid extra for. That would be a huge let down Toyota if your listening....I'm expecting to get what we paid for out of the new engine.

How much do you think it will cost Toyota if they start dropping bad replacement engines in these bad boys?

I believe the initial report I read said the cost is currently estimated at $3-$4 Billions dollars….which is still cheaper than the “unintended acceleration” recall from 15 years ago lol. Toyota is not worried about money at this particular point, but they need to worry about their future/reputation.

Well eff.., wife has a '23 Sequoia, and I have a '23 Tundra, and both Hybrids..., so while not on the recall, not feeling good about $150k worth of sh$t in the garage right now. Resale value is going to be in the tank.. After 10 + Toyota's, think it is time to start poking around for something else and dump these two before the resale value looks like the technology marvel of the twin turbo six.

I get it, low percentage actually fail., but don't want resale value to be crushed.

Not a Ford fan, but maybe time to look into a Tremor and a Bronco, or heaven forbid a cRAM..., ugh..., or find a classic at GR Auto and just make it a daily driver

    Shouldn't have bought new tires

    :bananadead:

Hey look the emoji is Toyota's reputation.....

Ford, Ram, all have their issues. There's no guarantees of quality with any of them. Toyota (IMHO) is still better than most simply because they are more willing to help fix issues that come up than the other manufacturers. That doesn't help with worry of whether you are going be next on the blown engine train but at least if it does happen, you'll likely be better taken care of.

Damn dudes! Grass isn't always greener on the other side. Just roll & go. Don't let small percentages worry you. Ford has more recalls than any other manufacturer, and their service departments are backed up for months to prove it. Seems like all mfgs, are having issues of some sort.
Check out a Ford, Chevy, or Ram forum, it's all doom & gloom there too.
Toyota is doing the right thing & at least fixing them correctly instead of a bandaid. I came from Ford, & it was recalls to fix the recalls that had already been recalled.

I think the residual effects of the "COVID era" are starting to manifest themselves in the auto industry big-time...labor shortages, parts shortages, shortcuts taken to compensate, outsourcing to any vendor who can get the parts no matter the source or quality, laziness, fear, loss of profits, etc. We as consumers are literally paying the price now.

    Here is a question:

Do I keep rolling on my 22 TRD OR Lease [60,000km] OR trade in for a 23 TRD Pro on a Lease [13,000km]?

I do have the Recall on mine [RHO (XH0)]!

Not just auto industry. Quality was fleeting in all industries and COVID was final nail in that coffin. I just replaced the heat pump and wall oven in my 8 year old house.

Toyota delayed it with the reliance on many powertrains and platforms designed in the early 2000s. But now they are the same boat as pretty much any manufacturer of anything. Chasing quality in a very dynamic business climate

    Lots of stuff!
I was in the same situation. I like the idea of moving to the TRD Pro. The challenge I found is that I purchased my Tundra when I should have leased it.

When I went to trade it on a newer (maybe Hybrid) my dealership didn't want my 22 back. They were willing to help me auction it off with a potential loss of ~40% of what I paid for it. Mine had only 7,600 kms on it.

In your case, you are dealing with a lease so they get the truck back regardless of the situation. Is there a big bump in your monthly payment going to the Pro?
