All this EV crap manufacturers are pushing, whether they are being forced to or not, is a pile of garbage. Numerous studies show that if you take the lifetime of an EV, including manufacturing and decommissioning of all parts (batteries especially), they are worse for the environment. I hope other manufacturers would follow Toyota and invest in R&D for actual solutions like using a hydrogen ICE.

Can you please cite those studies. I’ve been trying to find something specific to this to show a co-worker that is in denial. Thanks in advance!!

Friend’s wife drove a 2024 Escalade ESV for 5k miles until the engine seized. :eek2: They were without for about a month when it had 1k miles on it and the infotainment system died.

geez, maybe its good the seats were so bad in the GMC I turned around and said no thank you.

I was shocked at how shitty the AT4 rode as well, it was crap.

The GMC seats worked for me and I like the GMC infotainment better. That said, the AT4 road awful compared to the AVS tundra and the 6.2 doesn't have that on ramp and passing whoosh. Then there's the dinky gas tank.
Just drove Asheville to Ft Lauderdale yesterday unloaded. 75-80MPH. 21.5MPG with regular. 23MPG on the last trip at 70-75. Comfortable and quiet.
Going back to Asheville with a full load next week.

    wow really regarding the infotainment?

I hated the position and size of the GMC and it was slow compared to the snappy tundra system

Exactly, I'm cross shopping F-250/350s (w/ the 7.3L), mainly because I can't buy an F-150 with an 8' bed anymore, unless I buy a regular cab XL. I don't NEED a new truck but would like to buy one in the near future. It will either be a Tundra or Godzilla equipped Superduty.

did they cut carplay out for the trucks yet or is that on the EVs so far?

I don't like how low that screen is , feel like you have to look way down to see it, I like the tundra one up high, but doesnt stick out of the dash more than 1-2"

It had wireless CarPlay. I don't use CarPlay and it let me set up with nav and music split.
It's all what you like. Anything after 2022 i can either pick apart or just hate.

People love to report 22+ on a highway trip in their v6 truck and compare that to their old v8 truck’s tank average of 13-14. I can get 19 on a long highway trip myself.

But comparing apples to apples, the numbers do not lie: tank average vs tank average, which is what people post on Fuelly, the difference is about 3mpg. Don’t pretend this is significant enough to make you think you’re saving money at all.

    The actual math:

If 87 is $3.18/gal (current natl avg) and the new truck @ 17mpg cost $15k more than the old truck @ 14 mpg, it’s going to take 421,000 miles for you to start saving money.

“But my gas is more expensive—it’s $5 a gallon!”

Then congrats, you’ll break even in the above scenario in only 238,000 miles.

It’s like cybertruck drivers saying they save so much money not buying fuel, but they have a $1500/month payment

Well, it had been a week or so since I read the forum and say I was behind by 10 pages. I wasted 15 minutes of remaining life on this earth reading through conjecture, insults, discussion of other brands, etc. all to find out there was absolutely no value in any of the posts. #shocker

Yes, this is entirely possible. But what doesn’t make sense to me if Toyota isn’t harvesting parts is why pay for shipping the motor back? Why not just require the techs to drill holes in the block/turbos same as the motors with spun bearings?

People also like to report they are the same when they are not, which is why this even got brought up in this thread

i don’t think anyone was talking about saving money as the reason to buy one, just stating the fact that it’s at least 25% better and that doesn’t suck. For me in particular, I’m not an mpg guy and would have bought it anyway if it was still 13/17 like the old one, but like I said I’m not going to complain getting more like 17/22+

The 6.2 is a sweet motor. Shame on the AFM bit that ends up ruining them. I wonder how much of that is cheap steel (my BILs case with non-afm lifter failure) and how much of it is improper oil and change interval. They call for DEXOS oil specifically, and few even know that they are supposed to do that. My BIL didn’t. Also going 10k on a motor that uses the oil to set timing advance and actuate the AFM is probably not a great idea.

Point is they are quite expensive with constantly riding prices. $109
The above math only works if you are comparing same model year V8 to V6 truck purchases. If they are the similiar price, depreciation as most full size trucks are then the V6 with better MPG at same price point would save you thousands over a long ownership.

Your math above only applies to same year different engine at different costs comparison. That might apply for the Max Tundra upgrade but well documented that is a performance not MPG upgrade

The should I buy a new truck to replace my old one is totally different discussion with many variables only one of which is MPG

Off topic... but this is where the 5 year / 100K cost of ownership analyses are really helpful for potential buyers as these comparisons include costs to maintain, depreciation, MPG, etc, etc, etc. Assuming a 2-3MPG improvement at 12,500 miles driven per year, and considering only fuel economy, the savings average about $275-$325/annually. I'll end up in a new 3rd gen at some point, but TBH, for all the added complexity vs the 5.7s I have now, I'd expect better MPG.

guess you’ll have to settle for 3-4 mpg better, a bunch more torque, lower torque peak , better transmission, way better ride and towing performance, and tons more options like locker, load leveling , 6.5 bed crewmax , etc :p
