Just wait until all these engines all in tight emissions compliance currently need expensive maintenance as they age to keep them in compliance. The overall cost-effective serviceable life is going to be significantly less based on that metric alone, driving up the cost per mile of ownership by a huge amount. We don't know yet just how royally we all have been screwed, but we are happy to live in ignorant bliss. With lighter wallets. Of course.

(First there was the mini ice age. Then we were running out of oil. Then we had the ozone layer. Then we had global warming. Now we are trying to stop climate change. Somewhere along the way we had global overpopulation, now we have adverse population demographics. Guess what's next? Oh wait. I know. I now have the choice to get a plastic straw in a paper wrap, but I will get a paper straw in a plastic wrap, just to feel better. Never mind like most such things it does not work as well at its intended primary purpose. But I can drink the water out of tailpipes now.)

I thought Ram solved the trans thing by going ZF on the 1/2 ton and Aisin on the HD.

my 1/2 ton ram had the ZF 8 and it was awesome

ya, I think that portion of the course was solved, both ZF and Aisin are really good.

Ram finally said fuck it, we can't build one for shit, lets buy one, lol.

as a matter of fact, that ZF8 maybe the best trans Ive had in all my trucks, although this 10 speed from aisin is pretty damn legit.

Ok, so I firstly, I already said the engine blowing up will be commented on so you could have left that part out. Secondly, self-deleting?!!! WTF is that trigger warning term? Are you trying to be funny or are you serious?

nah, its all good, he's just trying to fulfill the 2021 owner quota of talking about that when we talk about better mpg, more power, better towing, more features and options, etc. :burp:

after all , in a engine recall thread you damn 3rd gen owners need to be reminded about the bearing recall, just in case you forgot:p

I looked it up and you can’t really find an Aisin in anything but a 3500 Dually with the HO Cummins and they are $$$$$$. Chryslers questionable 6-speed 68RFE in all the rest of the diesels. However the articles are saying the new ‘25 models will have the ZF 8-speed, which is intriguing.

I think with that power train you can have a pretty reliable truck. We will see.

LOL, I'll be like one of those newer engines (dead). In all seriousness, I really do like the newer trucks AND the engines. It is just unfortunate that there was a defect that has affected a lot of customers. I'll never have a newer one. I bought this one to drive me to the grave. This is my first Toyota and I absolutely love it. I was lucky enough to pay it off in 30 months and I like it even a little more now I'm not paying 950 each month.

    25% of 13mpg is 3.25mpg
    25% of 14mpg is 3.50 mpg
    So...yeah, that's a 25%+ improvement if that's your starting point.

I can consistently get 19-20 combined with mine, just driving "normal", no special treatment. Stock sized tires, no lift.
Plenty of these trucks on here doing that.

Fully.com has a pretty good sample size and the numbers are what they are. For 3mpg to be a 25%+ improvement the 3UltraReliable-ForEver would need to get 12mpg or worse. The fuelly data show the 3UltaReliable-ForEver does better than that, your anecdotes aside.

Blame politics. Are you willing to own and drive a vehicle that is reliable and gets 14-15 MPG? Me too.

Our government and all of the lobbyists are not okay with your decision/choice.

All manufactures are mandated to have "fleet MPG requirements". A dirty, V8 doesn't fit into that government mandate.

Just the facts sir, I guarantee Toyota would have preferred keeping the V8, they seriously explored upgrading the transmission to 6-8 speeds to maintain it, but couldn't meet the requirements.

Very true!!! Glad you pointed that out. Toyota really didn't want to move to such a complex platform when they'd had so many years of reliability.

Did anyone notice GM started putting their new 6.2L in the 1500 series, coupled with their new 10 speed? I saw this at the dealer yesterday:

Been doing that for a while. I had a 2019 and 2021 Silverado 1500 with the 6.2L/10-speed combo.

I guess I’m not up to speed with GM. I thought both the engine and trans were new within the last year or so. I was under the impression the 5.3 was the only v8. Thank you.

Poor guy. Wonder how hot his air cooled engine got before he shut it down. I'd be asking for a new long block.
