Don’t know how we are talking straight 6 swaps and no one thinks a Cummins would be fun.

Agreed. And if Toyota has long blocks, they are not going to fuck around with a short block rebuild.

Just back from Scotland where the few Toyota trucks I saw (HiLux) were all diesels - and noisy! Still would love one.

I went to check if my truck is in the recall... build date is Feb 10 23.
Put in the vin, only thing I got was fuel tank recall.
Nothing about the engine. Thought this was for vehicles thru 2/13/23
This isnt a hybrid etc truck. Standard 1794 edition.

only certain VINs towards then end are in, so yours was cleaned according to the new process, according to the info from toyota.

we'll see how this turns out if they expand this over time, but for now, just drive and go about your way

Agree, we live in SW Idaho and frequently go to the outback where cell service is marginal to none. To have communications out there my wife has an iPhone with the SOS feature (it's actually not terribly helpful as I don't think they contact Toyota they just contact "local" police), and have installed a GMRS/Ham combo radio programmed with a lot of repeaters. That's still not perfect of course but gives some degree of comfort.

You’ll have a blast. My only recommendations are get a 4wd and hit all the f-roads. Most of them lead to some majestic sights

Get a 3.0 Duramax. As close as we'll get in the states to a small diesel. Thing is fun.

Toyota not looking good with their redesigned Trucks. Tacomas are now having transmission failures.

I believe that same unit is also in all the new LandCruisers.

There are a few dealers with NEW 2023 GMC or Chevy trucks still on the lot with that motor, I was looking at online to see if a great deal is to be had. Then I saw the sticker and it is made in Mexico??? No thanks.

Ooops originally had the wrong one.

I'll take a bad transmission over a bad engine...both suck though

I’ve spent quite a bit of time in one. The only fun thing is seeing 25 mpg on the dash. What is not fun is dropping the transmission to replace the oil pump belt. This is scheduled maintenance at 150k or 200k depending on whether you’ve got the redesigned belt or not.

Not an issue for you, as you probably won’t keep it half that long.

Very true. Definitely won't keep it 150 or 200. But in the meantime the 495lb tq and the diesel powerband is really fun.

Yea, to be honest things built in Mexico in my experience are better built than the USA. Sources being the Raptor I owned and 24 tundra. Both interiors way worse than the GM. Same goes for fit and finish. I just purchased a made in US truck shell, and the quality is terrible compared to the previous Leer's ive owned which are made in Mexico.
