my guess is this recall may expand depending on the failure rates they are watching internally.

but thats just speculation of course, at least this is toyota doing what we like about toyota, standing behind their trucks when shit happens for the most part.

according to the parts names I think I have seen before, "engine assembly" is not the entire engine only a portion of it.

    we need clarification on that

I would assume turbos too. The same oil with metal debris going through the engine also goes through the turbos, too.

Not very exciting news for me...
    Door sticker says 2/2023
I'm not on the recall list.
What reassurance do I have that mine is ok?

nobody ever has 100% assurance, that said, the recall states why it is limited to where it ended as yours (and mine) presumably have the new cleaning procedures to the blocks to the failure rate is likely much lower (its never going to be 0 no matter what).

that said, could the recall expand, sure, but right now it is what it is.

Yeah im sure most companies are totally fine absorbing 2.5 billion dollars replacing engines on nearly a years worth of production that they didn't need to

I didnt say they were going to file for bankruptcy.

This 2.5 Gen owner is VERY happy for all of you 3rd Gen owners. AND gives me faith that Toyota is still taking their reliability reputation seriously.

And it won’t cost them 20k per engine . That’s what they charge the consumer for a replacement

VW ate $30 something billion for diesel gate penalties and buy backs and survived. Ford routinely blows $5B a year in warranty to fix their junk.

A few billion to a big company is like when the HVAC unit blows up in a upper middle class persons house. A one time hit but ain't nobody filing bankruptcy or committing suicide over it

Manufacturing, shipping, labor, rental car, and inevitable that some customers return with new bugs from the swap (cab squeaks/rattles/codes/loose connections) that’ll have to be chased down. But fewer drivability problems re: fluid leaks: than short block replacements… and that’s a good thing for 3rd gen owners for sure.

My main questions are 1) how long till it happens 2) warranty on new engine and 3) I want a loaner or rental I can fit in. Don't think a Corolla is going to do it

Other than that happy they manned up. I intend to take it back to my selling dealer couple of hours away since my local dealer sucks

This is definitely new. We have been waiting to see what they were going to do and this pretty much answers it.

Devils in the details but if this is true it’s good news and my trust in Toyota is not lost just yet. Anybody see the Ford financial report today. Maybe a well timed/orchestrated announcement coming from Toyota?

there’s no doubt this recall is going to be expanded. If I had to place a bet it’s going to go up to the month that the main bearing part number was changed. So Jan 2024.

I would say there is absolutely doubt if we are being real

if the failure rate for the trucks after this recall is within acceptable failure rates, they won’t expand , just fix as warranted

But they could expand also, it’s possible but not certain

I think this is probably the move to be honest. I think they will fix all the engines under the recall and then move on to a case by case basis. But could be wrong. After that they will probably move on to hybrids under the same date ranges. Logistically it will be a lot of work for the first 100k people, so I assume Toyota will have a tiered structure. Unless of course the engine fails not under the recall then you would just had to the dealer and get it fixed. We see way less failures being posted and most the ones being posted are 2022s. Not to say there aren’t outliers outside those dates but as of right now, great news for owners of 3rd gens. Good to see Toyota stepping up and doing the right thing.

Like I said in the post you quoted: I never said they were filing for bankruptcy cause of this.

But keep putting words in my mouth.

Yea companies won’t eat that money haha. They just roll it into all the other vehicles they are producing. Just the way business works. I don’t know why people are arguing with you. Toyota has been a business for many years and knows exactly what they are doing. It’s going to be a hit for sure but they will recoup it one way or another

This is some good news for owners. If they did expand to include all 3rd gen tundras. How many would it be?

There’s no acceptable total engine failure rate. If your engine goes and you’re not in the recall window you’re going to get a new engine regardless. I believe Toyota only did this window to get the recall out there to show acknowledgment and if it was any further in the build date they writing have to halt sarks of the 2024 MY.
