Not seeing any changes, but that doesn't mean anything at the moment.

It could've been a process update, etc. Hard to know what the "countermeasure" was exactly.

So, Toyota doesn't mind if their maintenance manager leaks info? Interesting.

It's not the first time that they have posted information like this with in a comment thread of Facebook.

There was a lady who worked at TMMAL that leaked the recall remedy, with a picture, before December 6, 2024. And she had TMMAL listed in her Facebook Profile.

    Interesting indeed!
When I see stuff like this, I just can't help but wonder, if a countermeasure that solves the problem (new part, or process) was introduced in July of 2025, why does the recall only cover build dates up to February of 2023? Where does that leave owners in between?
Only Toyota knows for sure, but we could make an assumption that it was a decision which weighs the likelihood of failures against the cost of replacement.
If that's true, that points to what others have mentioned here in the past: Toyota is gambling with their customer's safety.

NHTSA will be interested in this (or should be).

IF the July "countermeasure" actually fixes the issue, that's still very recent. It's too early to assume Toyota is doing any gambling and/or not widely distributing the new "fix."

Obviously we are all just speculating, but I had the same thought.

A "countermeasure" is claimed to be put in place 2 months ago that presumably addresses a problem that Toyota claimed was resolved in Feb 2023.

    Hmmmm.....?

going to be interesting how this plays out over time, the lawyers are working overtime to shield them from replacing all of them

Well, sort of. But consider the situation from Toyota's perspective. If a safety issue surfaced early on, and you don't yet have a confirmed fix for it, then why say you do, and launch a "remedy". And taking it further, why have that recall only run to 2023 when you still don't have a confirmed solution? And even further still, why exclude hybrids under the guise that they 'still have motive power' when that has been confirmed false?

Might need my tin foil hat on here, but, it seems more likely that Toyota put an arbitrary recall date in there to:
    1. help put shareholders at ease;
    2. stop the bleeding on their name/reputation; and
    3. buy some time with nhtsa while they try to find the "real problem and the real solution".

If true (and it's just an IF), then I would say this meets the criteria of "gambling with safety" (i.e. just a colloquial and perhaps insensitive way of saying: they are weighing risk of driver safety vs. cost of a full recall).

To put it shortly: if you have a known safety problem with no confirmed solution, and you do anything short of a full recall spanning all build dates, then I'm not sure what else it amounts to.

    Exactly! You get it.

Wow. Just wow. This guy went from claiming to not know who Ryan was when he first showed up here or having any knowledge of all the claims he made, to being his head disciple with full knowledge of his experience and loudly singing his praise. I know the mods have said it can’t be him but I’m smelling something fishy here. No one with an ego the size of NotRyan (owe you another beer BB) will ever give anyone else credit, never mind this level of admiration!!!

No one cares if it is or isn’t Ryan. We just appreciate the info. Ad hominem attacks contribute nothing to the conversation.

I appreciated all the info Ryan shared until a lot of his claims that the problems were fixed and it’s perfectly fine to buy a new truck turned out to be way off. Now there’s another guy with the same style of making claims without being able to substantiate it and we appreciate that info? Until when? Until it’s also proven to be false? All while lying about his identity?

I actually do care whether they are the same person because I’m sure there were a lot of people that thought OG Ryan knew what he was talking about when he said everything was fixed. Just as there are people trusting info from NotRyan.

Pretty sure Ryan just reported that Toyota said it was fixed. I don't recall him ever stating it was fixed of his own personal knowledge.

IF it really fixed now they really should expand the recall. However I do think Toyota will put a CSP for us after the recall range

My dealer had 86 on the list in August. Would not add my very late 22 since it was not available yet. Probably a 100 on the list by time it opens for me

So I figure I got 2+ year wait. Which not sure if I am thrilled about that. I probably would just cut bait on it as resale values have stabilized past few months. Just can't identity any other vehicle that excites me enough to do it.

My only comparison experience is the junk Honda 5 speed auto mass replacements in early 2000. Honda did not replace until failure, but pretty much they all failed. So all the dealers were going several a week for several years

Thank God, finally a solution. I for one am quite confident the new countermeasures will work just as well as the previous measures.:rofl::rofl:

According to Kelly Blue Book, the average re-sale value of a 2022 Tundra is $29,363, a whooping 27% depreciation ($11,182)

That's a lot of bait to cut, IMO.

It is a tough spot to be in.

Everyone values peace of mind differently.

I agree with you, but I absolutely can see the appeal of cutting losses.

That’s odd. Here is what I just found on a private party sale on my truck I purchased a year ago for $45K

Here what KBB says my 2024 Limited TRD OR, with 18.5K miles and in excellent condition, is worth:

    IMG_0329.jpg

A whopping $14,700 less than what I paid for it. That’s a lot of depreciation for 2 years. Eventually, everyone looking for that 2021 with 25K miles unicorn will give up and consider a Gen3.

I thought banks and dealerships used jd power not kbb?

so we still don’t know what the cause of the failures is/was?

    Maybe your area.

My 22 private party value on KBB is $40.5-44k

    I paid 55k before taxes

25% in 3 years is okish given how much these rigs now cost. You can't compare resale values of a pre inflationary period vehicle to an inflationary period one.

It’s easy to discount inflation as it contributes to prices. We’re used to it coming on much slower. Think “boiled frog” analogy.

We’ve been through a massive inflationary period since Covid. It’s less now, but don’t expect 2% again unless we have a real recession.

Anyone old enough to remember the 70s knows inflation. My parents bought a new Ford Galaxy for $3k and built a new home for $16k in late 60s By late 70s it was more like $8k and $50k.

I can remember by mid 70s my mother crying at the table when they were paying bills every month

I can remeber around 1970 my dad worried about having to pay for a new transmission in his drive to work clunker. It cost $150.

I am old enough to remember all that, and then some. I was reading the car mags back in the late 60s and early 70s and recall seeing a road test of a Lamborghini Miura with the MSRP listed as ~$25,000. Damn, that was a beautiful car. Seems like nothing now but it was about 10x the price of the average Chevy or Ford then. God only knows what a decent example of a Miura would fetch now.

    Edit, from the AI:
    • Today, the value of a Miura has increased significantly, with current market prices ranging between $1.5 million and $2.5 million or more, depending on the specific model and condition.

What I remember most about the '70s thru the '80s were the high interest rates. My first used car loan was around 18%. My first mortgage was 12%. Credit cards were around 17%. It was insanely expensive to borrow money back then. I always laugh when people complain about interest rates these days.

Inflation is a double edged sword, especially if wages don't keep up. On the other hand, our first house appreciated 300% in 10 years. That sure made it easy to upgrade when we were ready.

Just got my letter from GMC for my 6.2L V8 Recall.

So for all you folks talking shit about how they are handling it, I get a 10 year, 150k mile promise to replace the engine if anything happens, if the initial inspection passes. GMC's fix is confirmed to be a real fix from what I understand. You guys get a not fixed engine with a 12 month warranty and then a 30k bill if it fails. It also included a form to get reimbursed from any issues so far.

I know which one makes me feel better.

Good luck. My BILs 6.2 died at 152k. And GMCs fix is heavier weight oil, or engine replacement if it's too far gone already. Not sure what a "real fix" is??

We also have a 6.2L GMC in our household and I was shocked to hear what GM offered warranty wise with their replacement compared to Toyota. To me, that just shows Toyota has no faith in their engine.
