    Yep, after a basket full of Toyota's (see sig), these will be my last. Thought the TURDPRO would be good for resale.., but ignoring the Hybrid just F'd me in the biggest way (I also have a 23' hybrid Sequoia that would have otherwise been covered too).

    Now I have two rolling grenades, with resale value getting pummeled, and even if I buy an extended warranty (thanks Toyota), I would still get a sketchy rebuild if they go.

    Sorry, bitter, and Toyota isn't helping themselves at all. Sorry, love my truck(s), but don't trust them or Toyota.... All they have to do is offer an extended warranty until this is fixed, and they would be heroes...

    OK, I feel better now.., just not about the brand

    And I can see it from both sides, though that particular member has been very close to my ignore list before I just decided to scroll on.

    I am, however, a 3rd Gen owner who would go back to a 2.5 gen if the deal were right. Trouble is, I can't really stomach paying more for a used 2018-2021 with more miles than I paid for my new 2019 that I traded with fewer miles. I kick myself for that trade almost daily.

    My desire to trade is not out of fear of my engine being a grenade, but more because I miss things about the old truck and how I felt driving it. The 3rd gen is fine, but I don't love it. There are a few features it has that I would miss, but there are things I miss about the 2.5 gen as well. Lots of it is subjective, so it's not going to apply to anyone but me.

    Stuff I miss from my 2019:
    1. Infotainment was way more useful. The 3rd gen is bigger and has better resolution, but it's got dogshit functionality. I preferred the interface of the old unit. The old one's voice for texts and such was easier to understand as well.
    2. V8 sound and feel. What can I say, I like the growl and I miss it. Not just that, though. My 2.5 gen was smoother on acceleration and didn't have the spastic jolts when engaging cruise.
    3. It felt so much roomier inside than my current truck. Not saying the 3rd gen is cramped, but it feels smaller.
    4. Sticking to feelings, the 2.5 gen felt more like a truck. Hard for me to articulate, but the utilitarian beefiness of a truck doesn't come across in a 3rd gen.
    5. Soft drop tailgate with no power gimmick. I hate my truck's all power tailgate. Subjective, I know.
    6. I think the 2.5 gen looked better, especially because it had colors outside the basic white, grey, black, brown, red that the 3rd gen is limited to. I also got repeated compliments
    7. Interior fitment was better than my 3rd gen. No rattles, no weird gaps in dash pieces, and I didn't ever feel like I was going to break anything. Nothing felt cheap like the 3rd gen's shifter button and center console lid. Same low end easy to scratch plastic in both Tundras, and both way better than the '24 F150 I had.
    8. Automatic High Beams were actually usable. In the 3rd gen they are retarded as all hell. They can't decide if they want to be on or off if there is oncoming traffic, so it winds up flashing them a few times while it decided. Makes me seem like an asshole flashing lights at everyone, so I had to turn it off. My 2019's worked quite well.
    9. Way more room in the back seat, with or without the seats folded.
    10. Center console was more usable with a slider tray in it. The 3rd gen has the weird layout with one corner have a little shelf, and then a little cube cutting off another portion, and it makes it all feel smaller.
    11. Much preferred the HVAC and 4x4 controls in the old SR5.

    Stuff I would miss from my 2025:
    1. 360° cameras. I love this feature and would really miss it. Loved it in my last 3 vehicles.
    2. Ventilated seats. First time I've had them, and I really like this feature. My balls have never been cooler on a summer drive.
    3. Memory seats. I'm fat and the run back feature when shutting the truck down keeps me from gouging my steering wheel with my knife that is clipped in my pocket. That's convenient.
    4. Auto up/down windows. Convenient.
    5. Dark headliner. So much better than the tan of the 2.5 gen.
    6. Push button start and smart handles. I loved these in my 2017 WRX, but quickly got used to not having them when I got my 2019 Tundra. I could adapt again.
    7. The softex and the steering wheel feel very really nice.
    8. The soft touch dash of the Limited is neat, but it doesn't feel super tough. I'm thinking it's a thin skin over foam and that foam is going to degrade over time.

    Though he's troll-ish, I am one of those who would go back if the prices on the 2.5 gen weren't insane.

    Well I for one love my 2025 over my 2020. Towing a 7k pound boat with my 2025 is a night and day difference over the 2020. The 2020 would scream in the rpm band and the temps ran hotter than my 2025 does going up the grapevine in 100+ degree heat. This platform feels and pulls more like a truck than the gen 2/2.5. Ride comfort is insanely good compared to my 2020, even my wife commented how much smoother and quieter it seems. Whatever Toyota decides to do as far as the engine is concerned, I think they’ll do the right thing in the long run. I was lucky enough to reach out to guys on here about getting the 10 year / 125k mile warranty for a steal of a price. Drive whatever makes you happy and this truck definitely makes me happy.


    PS…. Spoke to someone OTT and they said possibly early winter for a tune for the 3rd gen. We shall see what kind of gains will be had!

    If you ever sell your house, even though I won’t be the buyer, THANK YOU for putting plastic up while painting.

    I’ve been in my current house 5 years and I’m still finding paint dust from sanding and over spray everywhere in my detached garage from the previous owner who just sprayed and sanded without plastic…

    Also, excellent job on the Jeep, looks fantastic! It’s definitely hard to get rid of things from a father, so happy for you to see the rebuild to get to keep it longer! I inherited my fathers boat when he passed and don’t think I’ll ever be able to get rid of it.
