Something isn't right. I think more than 1 thing can be true at the same time. Maybe there is a design issue AND maybe the debris was prematurely exposing the design flaw??? I don't know, I wish I had more info.

It's true. I have seen electric only at 60+mph on near flat road for a few moments. You would not know the ice is off. Steering/brake feel the same as expected. What I cannot replicate is situation where you need the ice and it fails leaving only electric.

This is it. I don't know what I don't know, and I am not even sure that I believe what I do "know" about this. We simply don't have enough information. All we can do is trust Toyota to make it right, or to bail and go buy something else, that will likely be worse in so many other ways.

The 2025 MY Tundras appear to have very few main bearing failures, from what I can tell, so it’s not unreasonable to assume that the new ‘26 models coming this fall no longer have this particular engine problem plaguing them.

This problem may never disappear entirely from the V35A but as time goes on, it’ll likely be as uncommon as the valve spring failures on the UR series V8s.

Toyota has the information and that information has only expanded in the year or so the recall has been out. They are either lying about it being remediated to acceptable levels or they aren’t. What is the other “thing” that could be true?

Maybe they are telling the truth that the debris issues is resolved, but we are still seeing a design flaw pop up. Remember they based the recall on debris

Toyota has a long history of questionable ethics behavior. Here are some recent examples:

    - Daihatsu Safety Test Scandal (2022-2024): Toyota's subsidiary, Daihatsu, was found to have falsified safety test data for several models, including for pedestrian protection and collision performance.
    - Hino Motors Emissions Scandal (2003-2022): Toyota's truck division, Hino, systematically falsified emissions and fuel consumption data for its engines, a practice that began as early as 2003 and was acknowledged in 2022.
    - Toyota's Japanese Safety Test Scandal (2014-2020, revealed 2024): The Japanese government uncovered that Toyota itself had submitted incorrect or falsified data for several certification tests, including those for pedestrian protection, collision performance, and airbag systems.
    - Clean Air Act Noncompliance (2010-2019): In 2021, Toyota paid a $180 million settlement to the U.S. government for failing to comply with Clean Air Act reporting obligations for a decade.

And don't forget the Sudden Unintended Acceleration scandal in 2009-2011 where Toyota denied the problem, hid information from government investigators, falsified records, until finally admitting to the problem. They were fined over $1 billion and paid even more in settlements with victims' families.

I wouldn't trust a word coming from Toyota.

So you're saying they are selling motors with a known design issue that causes catastrophic failures and have been for a long period of time?

There are two types of corporate cultures. One is based on values, the other on rules. Companies whose culture is based on values, follow the principle of "do the right thing". Companies whose culture is based on rules believe that it's OK to cheat as long as you don't get caught. There is plenty of evidence that Toyota belongs to the second group (together with VW, Mercedes and many other car manufacturers).
There are non-profit NGOs that closely study corporate behavior, and Toyota scores at the very bottom on the ethics scale. GM is the most ethical company among large auto manufacturers, BTW. This has nothing to do with how good or bad their products are, it's purely about how they deal with problems.

If that's the case, I wouldn't own or discuss owning a Toyota of any type anywhere in the world.

I thought this was just common knowledge, so is GM, so is Ford, so did RAM. You think they don't know?

I’ve never seen Toyota make this statement

    “remediated to acceptable levels”
