    Apparently yes.
There’s comments on YT videos like the one below that mention Landcruiser 300 series V35A-FTS engines failing in countries like Saudi Arabia:

I’m seeing the same trend here as the one who’s name shall not be said. Claiming everything is fixed and safe because he knows a guy or has inside info he can’t share. Then there’s more failures and questions get answered with the same certainty when claims of problem being solved was answered. Funny how that works. They must have the same source

Can you point us to the documentation on this? I haven't seen it in my platinum warranty paperwork. I do take a picture of the oil and filter at the time I do the oil change. But I have seen in the past that no documentation is required.

Just dropped my truck off for service at local dealer.

Got added to the engine list. I am #85. It's gonna fail before I get the replacement.

LOL... I am in TBD phase, so I am in the same boat with potential failure before my number comes up. But with the hints being dropped that there is a design issue and "fix" that may also apply to the engines currently being built for the recall, does any of this even matter?

My guess would be that Toyota will do a "CSP" (customer support program) on these engines. Recall 100K and then the rest of us get a CSP to cover us for 10 year 150K miles warranty in case we need it.

OK, let's say they do that. Would they also make you sign a waiver for any further liabilities in case you do wind up in an accident and someone gets killed? After all this is a safety recall and should not be taken lightly. If given the option what would you do? Take the CSP or ask for your engine to be replaced?

When I had a 2008 4.7L, there was something similar. I do not recall exactly the reason, but it was the same, or close to it. Obviously it would be better if there was no need for concern, but I've long ago accepted that no manufactured product is going to be 100%. I just opened a pack of AA batteries that had one that was dead. Nothing is immune to manufacturing defects.

I guess that depends....are the recall motors secretly getting this "fix"? If so and that is the part the CSP would use, I think I would be okay with it.

If the recall engines are secretly getting the "fix", when did that begin and who got new ticking time bombs before that happened? What a mess. Not helped by the information vacuum.

Maybe the recall motors had this secret fix the entire time??? I don't know.

It's a slippery slope that is for sure. The way I see it is Toyota has to come good to all those who spent their hard earned dollars on their product and taking all the responsibility for this as a reputable company should do. I agree errors/mistakes can be made and companies know this through risk analysis and applying risk mitigation measures. So if a CSP does come to fruition there must not be a transfer of risk ownership onto the consumer. The same applies to engines that have been replaced already either with new short blocks or crate engines. Who is liable if the engine fails, someone gets hurt after the warranty expires and it is determined the failure was a result of the same issue that the engine was replaced for in the first place?

If they had a "fix" they also would have applied it to new builds and not set themselves up for a couple hundred thousand more potential failures and recalls.

Don't recall anything similar to this with the 4.7. When the 5.7 launched (2007) they had a batch of camshafts that supposedly got dropped in the crate or whatever that resulted in some trucks having the camshafts fail early on. 4.7 was dialed in at that point.

Maybe Toyota was using the recall motors as a test? Maybe they found that the recall motors are good to go and are seeing that the "old" process in the MY 25's are still failing?? I have no idea, just speculation on my end

That sounds like something GM would do. For some major issues GM would also just "do the math" and let their customers hang out there, and fix them in onesies and twosies when the failures presented. I was surprised that NHTSA let them get away with it for a couple of the more severe and safety related problems. Maybe Toyota is the new GM? God, I hope not.

There certainly is some angst in the C suites for all makers. You got an EV revolution that stops and starts that will it ever gets past the tipping point upset the global auto industry to opening the market up to various tech companies and countries previously not part of the game. No company can assume blind loyalty which allows them to make back money they used to freely spend on customer satisfaction with future sales of the same model to the same folks. Everybody is pinching pennies and limiting future year obligations to save their coal for an uncertain future

Ford those that use dealer servicing they are already there --- so this I guess would be if you did your own Maintenace which I don't since I have a 125k 10 year warranty on my truck.

The thing that stands out to me is the main bearing cap ladder assembly. While I don't have the information or ability to formally analyze it you have to wonder if there is something about physically connecting them all and constraining them... and seeing the forces of thermal expansion and contraction... as opposed to individual bearing caps that would be independent, that might be creating some variable clearance issues. After all, we are talking thousandths of an inch. I'd love to see what the Toyota engineers are looking at.

That was my thought initially as well and because Hyundai/Kia use the same ladder design and have had motors blowing up, our daughters Santa Fe, but was told by mechanics and engineers, maybe on here, that no that design is not the problem. Still not convinced, and just seems like a cost saving measure vs a "better" design, but I am not an engineer.

I am an engineer but can't really analyze this from here. But with thermal expansion and contraction, and using that ladder as a structural element that might be stressed in various ways, it seems something that would need to be looked at very closely. Not to say that they didn't look closely when they designed it. But even Toyota can miss things... that may only be made clear after running these motors extensively in the real world.

Correct, my dealership stuff is in there as well including the fat finger'd extra 6 in milage which instantly brought my truck from 16K to 166K. Stupid shit like that is why I never go anymore.

Maybe the recall motors have changed this? Maybe that's why the recall motors go down a different assembly line? Again just speculation on my part
