Sorry, bud, but this post is a perfect example of trolling.

What's "fascinating and mildly amusing" to you about guys who chose to sell their trucks, and take a big depreciation hit, because they didn't want the small, but very real, probability of their engines imploding? After all, isn't that the main reason you and many other Gen 2 guys won't consider buying one?

I don't see many Gen3 owners being overly sensitive about criticism of Toyota. In fact, I see the vast majority of owners who are more than willing to discuss the problems with the new Tundra. I've been very vocal about some of those problems.

The point is, the vast majority of Gen 2 posts aren't positive or constructive in any way. They are snarky, juvenile, and meant to agitate, just like your post above.

I tried to convince more than one of those guys to keep and drive their truck. Some traded away at a $10k loss. Highly irrational. Not sorry I found it fascinating and mildly amusing (no scare quotes required).

At best most of what you guys call trolling is mild ball-busting that exists in all other subforums without issue.

What's irrational about selling a truck that has a real possibility of leaving you and your family stranded in the middle of nowhere? And why would those guys care about what you think? Personally, I have no intention of selling my Gen3, but I can honestly say the engine issue will be on my mind when I load up my wife and dogs and drive cross country to Florida in a month.

This whole conversation started when I asked if Gen 3 guys troll the Gen 2 forums. I'm guessing the answer is no. Call it "mild ball-busting" if you want. I call it childish.

Lets face it, nobody see's things exactly the same way. Some people call it trolling while other see it as just ball busting.

I've never owned a Toyota truck before this 3rd Gen so I have no prior Gen to compare it too. I am just outside the recall window. Am I worried? Nope as the fail percentages are very low. Am I going to sell my truck right now because I am afraid it will implode? Nope, I just love this truck for now and who knows maybe something will come along in the future that I will like better. What will I do if it does fail? I will probably be pretty upset at first and then I hope Toyota will come good for it and replace the engine. I am thinking of an extended warranty but I never had to do that before.

I really thought this thread was to explore interesting news related to this recall and give maybe get some first hand experiences of what these owners have gone through. Maybe Breathing Borla has enough beer tokens by now that he is willing to share a few?!

Locking in a $10k loss before Toyota announced the recall and the long block solution while the failure rate hovers around 1%—yeah that’s irrational.

But what do I know, I bought a truck that is “objectively worse in every way” yet somehow I don’t have to deal with that remote possibility. (And this is mild ball-busting).

It's irrational in your opinion. I happen to agree. But, I also understand why it might be the right decision for someone with a different opinion and circumstances.

And, as usual, you just can't help bringing up your truck. Do you think any of us care about your truck? I had a 2008 and 2015 Tundras. I put 140k relatively trouble free miles on both of those trucks. They served their purposes well. So what? I was never inclined to troll a forum to "ball-bust" guys with a different truck.

Not true, we have a 21 TRD Pro in our shop at this very moment that chewed through the #4 rod bearing. Just ball busting

    Oh?
To be fair, this latest merry band of 3rd genners made it a solid hour before preej-ing their troll chowder at the anecdotal evidence of a 2nd gen engine bust.

    Without further ado:

To be fair, it’s no more or less anecdotal than the 22 1794 that was shared with a second engine failure not too long ago. In fact, the 21 PRO is at least first hand information. It’s either ok for 2nd AND 3rd genners to do or it’s not. I’m ok with it either way but I don’t think it’s fair if you’re only outraged when it’s heresy toward the 5.7.

Nobody is outraged. I was simply removing a little sheen from the white knights of the 3rd gen table.

Preej-ing their troll chowder, that is epic. Can I use that?
    Just a little ball busting.

I am not in a band, merry or otherwise, nor do I have any sheen to remove.
    I am bandless and sheenless.
    I am also not outraged.

As a former 5.7 owner, I am blown away by the performance of the 3.4. So much torque.

That said, I don't think I'd ever trust the truck again if it lost a bearing and needed a short block.

If it keeps running like it does now with 1,500 miles, it will be my all time favorite vehicle.

Totally exactly the same thing! I can’t wait for mine to go so I can get a new long block from the sweeping 3UR bearing-eating recall :bananadead:
I have been a ‘Yota fan since my first (a 4Runner). I am not rooting for the new gen to fail. I wanted the 3.4 to enjoy the normal Toyota reliability that we’ve all come to depend on, even if I’m not going to buy one. I think I’m in my last half ton, sadly.

There are some guys on here with over 100k on their 3rd gens; gives you a little bit of hope even as we keep seeing failures outside the recall window.

I'm not an online forum guru, but I'm pretty sure these statements wont win any argument. Many different trucks available for many different people. As one posted earlier, just because you have one thing doesn't mean its the right choice, that goes for both sides

They started phase 2 on March 11th. Just dropped my truck off this morning for the recall; I am in phase 2.

Hey guys, my truck is currently under the knife. It has been at the dealership for 2 days now. My advisor said that they are just replacing the short block on the engine. 2022 Limited with 56K miles, no engine knock.

That doesn't sound correct. After verifying that is what they are going to do, a call to toyota NA may be in order as that goes against the recall notice.

Do NOT accept a short block repair!
All 2022s should be getting a crate engine.
You need to complain directly with Toyota Customer Service.
