I have a business, happy to help those who want to work with us, those that don't...well theres other options, good luck!

I just love my 2nd gen and it's paid for, and I don't have any interest in getting a payment or putting out for a new one . I don't hate the guys who own the new ones, they look nice!

I will admit to some trolling though:anonymous:

I'm curious, do Gen 3 guys routinely troll the Gen 2 forum? I never go on that side of the tracks.

No, we just have nothing better to do with most of the action starting to go to 3rd gens. Whole lot of yelling at clouds.

You shopping for a replacement gen 2? If you were, you might be over there.

I see dealers and brokers offering $9000-$12000 off Tundras at this point, when they get to $20Kish off or stack 0% on top of the rebates I’m interested. Until then, I’ll be shopping for that deal.

Things like this are fun to say on the internet. Even if they aren’t true. And people will believe them. Truth is, the best selling year ever for the Tundra remains the 2007 first year for Gen 2.

    And it’s not even close.

I love the truck, but engine failure has me spooked.
I normally trade in before drive train warranty expires, usually 3 to 5 years, to insure trouble free transportation.
This is the sweet spot in regards to good trade $$$ versus depreciation.
In my current situation I will accelerate to 2.5 years (May 2026) where I’ll be at around 30K miles.

Another reason: to get ahead of Breathing Borla

Yup. My research shows Toyota sold a record 196,555 Tundras in 2007. 2024 is in 2nd place with 159,528.

Funny how mis-information spreads on the inter-webs.

Of course they do. How else would us poors know that we were poors?

Before that, we were just Tundra owners/enthusiasts, with enough interest in all things Toyota trucks to sign up for and participate on an Internet forum.

It's just confirmation bias for most. I bought a thing and its the best thing, that's why I bought it. Your thing is not and cannot be the best thing, because it's not what I bought.

Just for the heck of it did a little search on why some feel they have to troll others.
Insecurity-may resort to putting others down as a means of boosting their own self-esteem , Jealousy, competition, Lack of Empathy, Projection, "like this one", - Putting others down allows them to externalize their own internal struggles and deflect attention away from their own shortcomings.
And as KNABORES states - Your thing is not and cannot be the best thing, because it's not what I bought.

I just looked up the numbers and here to eat crow. I had read an article maybe 5 months back or so claiming they are killing it and number never before seen and I didn't fact check that, which I should have. Looks like there really isn't any difference, some good years some bad years.

There are a few here with the thinnest of skins, that’s for sure. I mean, it’s a truck, not your kid or your spouse or your dog. It’s not personal. Up to this point, in comparison to Toyota motors of the past (4.0, 4.7, 5.7), the 3.4TT has been a PR turd and a lot of potential buyers are disappointed in that. I agree with the Freudian analysis tho, I’d need a whole lot of rationalization, intellectualization, and cash incentives to think about dropping $70K on any truck with the 3.4TT. The truth is, Toyota has had 7 years to fix this issue and their engineers haven’t been able to figure it out yet… not much room left for optimism IMO.

There is no issue with the 3.4TT other than the one that started this thread. V8's are out so there is nothing for the Toyota Engineers to figure out. Once you get past this reality then you will be able to move on.

Exactly - if a buyer is willing to roll the dice that their $75K truck might be down for a couple months while getting a half-assed short block replacement and no extended warranty, there’s no issue at all. Caveat emptor and I can see the reasoning behind buying a new Tundra, I don’t agree with it, but I get it.

For guys like me, buying new truck with a motor that might eat bearings at any point between 4 miles and 74000 miles or even 174000 miles… meh… I’ll hold out for awhile longer and see how Toyota responds once they milk the cash they need to milk out of this motor and change the manufacturing and design of the 3.4. It’ll only get better, especially if Toyota continues putting the 3.4 in their flagships: “real” Land Cruisers / Lexus LX.

You probably would venture into the Gen 2 forum if there were a completely unprecedented recall for Gen 2 engines eating their bearings. It would be a high-visibility topic with new threads continually being bumped to the top of the homepage to engage with. Every time you thought Toyota fixed it, another handful of failures would be posted, yet more time would pass as Toyota does not extend the original recall window. You would want to check back to see if they do this because that doesn’t sound like the Toyota you’ve known over your ownership of several Toyota vehicles.

There would also be lots of Gen 2 owners who would get irrationally butthurt at the slightest criticism of Toyota. You would watch as many sell a perfectly functional truck at a loss due to the remote possibility they may have to deal with the recall. It would be fascinating and mildly amusing even if you feel bad for people dealing with the recall.

You're wrong. In that case, I would have empathy for the Gen 2 owners, and I'd hope that Toyota made things right for them. I absolutely would NOT troll the Gen 2 threads, just to rub salt in their wounds, and tell them how much better my truck is. I wouldn't find anything "fascinating and mildly amusing" about their situation. I can't imagine being that juvenile and insecure.

The selling of a perfectly functional truck because of the recall is absolutely fascinating and mildly amusing to me.

I do not troll these threads. I think I speak for the majority of Gen 2 owners who post here. Again, some of you guys take the slightest criticism of Toyota as a personal assault on your truck and your choice to buy it, and it’s ridiculous.
