They don't know how to properly test for fuel dilution.

AMSOIL or Lake Speed Jr for your oil testing.

So, how does that one data point affect their overall analysis, specifically relating to the our Gen 3 engines?

He’s probably going to claim that fuel dilution is the most important factor since that’s what’s causing these bearings to eat themselves. He won’t be able to give you any more info or sight a source and you’re just going to have to believe him. Isn’t that the way this usually goes?

I'll agree. They tested my ATF and didn't find any fuel at all.

Some light reading for you this morning:
    https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/blackstone-and-fuel-dilution.357356/

I’ve used Blackstone, but I’m not exactly a fan. Will probably switch to Amsoil for my next oil analysis, which will be 200k miles on the wife’s 570.

Or, he'll just ignore my question because he knows his assertion that "Blackstone is the absolute worst..." is a bit hyperbolic.

They test for fuel dilution using an approved ASTM method. It may not be the most accurate method, but that's no reason to publicly slander a decent company that provides an otherwise good service.

Your question was answered. If it was not satisfactory enough for you, then that is on you.

@FrankG - I'm still not Ryan. You can think all you want that I am, but I am not.

Close friend is a tribologist and he would be able to explain better than me, so there is no sense in me trying to explain what was communicated to me. Details and understanding would be missing en masse.

No need for snarky comments. We were talking about engine oil testing.

And that's what I've come to understand of the 2nd Gen owners on this board and elsewhere.

    Don't know the guy.

This was very interesting. Just don’t know what it has to do with the initial question I was replying to. What does just the fuel dilution have to do with all the other factors they test for, to paraphrase.

I can’t find this answer at all actually. Not having a question answered is very unsatisfactory so you were at least somewhat correct.

I didn’t mention your alter ego anywhere in my reply. That comment was 100% in reference to what was posted under your current handle.

You can't buy anything these days that's totally perfect. As mentioned, all manufacturers are having their own issues, and Toyota is not immune. Just drive it & boost on! Speculation is a terrible thing.
You have a much better chance of your truck being totalled by the person driving next to you while texting!

Nonsense. You didn't answer my question.

In case you missed it, I'll ask it again. How does Blackstone's less accurate fuel dilution method affect the validity of the rest of their oil analysis, and how does fuel dilution specifically relate to the Gen 3 engine recall?

If you don't know, it's OK to say so.

In 8 years Toyota hasn’t been able to figure out a simple cleaning issue on the assembly line? It’s gotta cost less than a billion and a half dollars to clean up some dingleberries. That line needs a Japanese bidet.
