Just got back my truck from the dealer. Have to say I am impressed. I dropped it off Monday morning and picked it up Wednesday noon. They have charged Toyota 13.6 hours of work for the replacement. It also seems, at least from the surface, they did a clean job.

Will be taking it easy for the few hundred miles, but noticed that the engine idles a bit quieter than the old one. Also, probably just in my head, it feels tad bit more responsive.

This is just out or curiosity but what if the Ford shit the bed on the test drive and the Tundra blew its engine on the test drive ? What would you have looked at then ?

If I was still commuting, running errands, I'd buy a used EV and charge it at home overnight with 220v upgrade. No more oil changes, no more trans fluid changes, simple driveline.

I did this, but tbh my electricity rate is more expensive than gas, peak is .65+ and off peak is .5 per kwh.

Doesn't make sense to go EV for everyone, I only did it cuz I get free charging at work.

I'm super jealous hearing ppl electricity rate of like .15, and Tesla superchargers are like .46

Not to mention Ev are higher to insure, so you win with lower maintenance but get slammed with more insurance monthly and higher registration in cali

    Not much has changed...yet.

An executive order can't re-write laws. The 50% EV target by 2035 was nothing more than an unenforceable target. EV tax credits, state mandates, and federal emissions regulations are still in place, and much of it will require legislative action to change.

With regards to replacing engines with long block or short blocks. I don't see why Toyota would not go the long block route for all engine replacement regardless of being in the recall or outside of it.

The way i look at it is Engine removal and re-installation would be the same for long or short blocks. So it would come down to the the cost to disassemble and reassemble a short block, I would think would be more than the cost of not doing it and supplying the long block ?

If we take into account the labor rates of a Master Diagnostic Technician (MDT) vs the production line personnel, I would think that it is higher for the MDT, just speculation though. The time it takes to assemble the long block in a production environment with all the specialized production tools, has to be shorter than the MDT doing it with some specific tools and a set of wrenches. So labor costs for the long block should be less.

The wasted parts scrapped on the short block should be everything the oil touches, so what does that leave? Wiring harnesses and hoses, (What else?) so that would be the saved cost by not using a long block.

Then the process to remove, disassemble then reassemble the short block is a very complex, and messy process. I recall seeing some pics of the short block tear down with a significant amount of parts needed to be touched & stored during this process, then comparing it to the current long block repair, it just seems there would be a much higher likely hood of something not getting done properly is very likely. Sorry MTD peeps i know you do your best but to assemble 2 parts versus 20 the later will have a higher rate of something going wrong from a statistical stand point.

I'm sure Toyota wants to fix the engine issues in all owners truck when needed, whether in recall or an out of recall failure. With the reputation with regards this Gen's reliability at stake, that it would be in there best interest to do the long block replacement, from a potential cost savings standpoint and certainly a reliability/reputation standpoint.

So Toyota please provide long blocks for all cases including the hybrids when require !!!

    That's my 2 cents YMMV

Ill take the fully assembled engine, and they need to add hybrids to recall or have this be the fix if they go boom. That's the starting point of the negotiations

my truck went to the dealer 30 days ago for an oil gauge not moving at all or going up and down quickly and dealer said it’s a sign of
    Engine failure..trucks at 32k miles..build date 09/22
they have called me every other week saying that im going to get the engine replaced in a week or two, well today they said it could be another month because my VIN number is not part of the remedy just yet
dealer said theyve talked to toyota and they cant get it moved up so they asked me to call and try...no luck...they cant give me a timeline..Toyota brand engagement is talking about buyback if I’m interested. But I’m not / I have tons of after market mods. They’d have to swap everything shocks,
Lift, trim to fit 37s. I said what if engine replacement takes 12 months? They said then it takes 12 months...what am i supposed to do? i am just at a loss and not sure what to do or how long this will even take? Sounds like they’re only replacing February ‘22 builds and I’m September 1st! any advice? I asked what if I buy a new engine can’t they reimburse me? They said no.
Also I’m in California, yes I’m aware of Lemon law and it’s on my side but I’m on a lease (didn’t know if we’d keep it , hubby wanted to keep it after lease so he made mods on it) anyways.. advice? Thoughts? Knowledge on remedy for September builds?

This is horseshit. But, they can do whatever they want within the limits of the law. You’re not being in the recall que yet due to build date should only apply to those wanting to do the recall but their engine hasn’t failed them. Anyone whose engine has failed should get the replacement done when it fails.

Negotiations? If the engine seizes, you get what toyota gives you. The warranty is that when the truck leaves the dealer it's repaired. Does not matter if long or short block, let alone your perception of "getting less".

It's fixed - end of story.

No idea what your buyback price would be? If it is favorable and with no confirmed date for a replacement engine and without another vehicle to use, I think I would strip it back to stock as much as possible and take the buyback.

This is no longer valid since the remedy has been released. This was covered under 24TB07 (Interim Notice) and no longer covered under 24TA07 (Remedy Notice).

To add to this: if you are in Phases 2-4, you might still be covered under 24TB07.

If this isn't sarcasm (original fb post) or an inside joke I don't get....The guys an absolute idiot to trust the dealer to replace parts and not get a full replacement from Toyota, installed at his preferred dealer (hopefully someone else).

Toyota and Ford, switching places with Kia and Hyundai on the reliability and dealer service ratings. Never thought I'd see the day.

Ever hear the saying, one bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch? One bad dealership experience shouldn't create a negative view on all dealerships.
