Glad you're ok OP and good call on the dashcams.

I'm running in dashcams in all cars... a variety of decent and high quality units. Something is better than nothing. Too many variables out there.

Good, recent reviews and recommendations here, along with a ton of more carnage. https://www.reddit.com/r/Dashcam/

I used small magnets to mount my rear cam to the headliner.

Tony was delivered to the body shop I requested yesterday morning. The other drivers insurance assumed 100% liability this morning and gave the shop the green light to begin teardown and estimate, and also picked up the tab on my rental and made the previous day's I had it retroactive, so the rental company refunded my credit card. Will run into a problem with the other driver only carrying state minimum insurance though depending on damage estimate. My insurance will step in at that point. I'm waiting to hear what the shop says as soon as they come up with something.

I tried this clip on the big cam, but the weight of the cam was to much and bounced all over the place.
The bigger cam is mounted to the rear seat head rest bars. This one was a PIA.
Ill take some pics tomorrow for you. Quite the little task.
I did get one of these with some other modifications

I tried the magnet from the local hardware store but it wasn't strong enough. I probably didn't get the right size.
I was also worried about the magnet being to close to the mem card.

Wasn't the other driver a RN? RN's make good money so having the minimum insurance level is insane. It's amazing how many people are underinsured.

I think most people just don't know any better, or don't pay attention. I was one of them 9 years ago, I found the hard way what happens when you cause someone a loss and are underinsured. I now carry way more most.

The state min. Here in Louisiana is $25,000. Most newer vehicles are at least $10,000 more than that. In this situation, 2 vehicles were damaged not counting the at fault drivers. 1 (mine) a 10 month old Tundra with extensive damage and a book of $36,000, the other a 3 month old Rav with moderate damage. That $25,000 will run out quickly.

The insurance company will happily cut a $25k check and then you have to go after her for the rest....

Mercy. I won't be on the hook for deductible. Their insurance will pay the deductible.

As well as can be expected considering.

    Still rolling stock baby....

That $25,000 should be per vehicle.

As mentioned its nuts at how many people only carry the state minimum. I carry a $500k-$750k-$500k policy. Cost was only $8 more a month over my previous $50k-$100k-$50k plan.

I was t-Boned in my Tacoma a few years back by a guy driving his GF car. He ran and I had to chase him down to get his license plate. Turns out he had an outstanding warrant and the GF cut rate insurance wouldn't pay because she said she didn't give him permission to drive the car, yet he had just dropped her off at work. Long story short I had to claim on my insurance and have them go after her but you can't get blood from a turnip and I ended up getting my premiums raised even though I wasn't at fault and had uninsured motorist, but I made a claim. Dropped that insurance like a hot potato (Travelers)

Glad everyone's ok BDII, and I wish you well from an insurance compensation POV. I know the other party has assumed responsibility, but having those cameras is huge these days where people are just whack.

I rolled my Tundra last year on HWY 90 near Bayou Vista after I was T-boned by another driver who ran the red turning left from the E bound side of 90. Apparently, after speaking with several residents of the area who stopped for the accident, it happens ALL THE TIME. Anyways, I wish I had a dash cam then, it ended up being a case of he said /she said.

Then, as suggested earlier in the thread-- remove all mods that you possibly can. When it was all said and done after fighting with my own insurance 10 months later for a total loss settlement, I ended up losing over 12K in accessories and modifications that my insurance company would not compensate me for. I provided every receipt for every item. And the other driver claimed ROW even though I am ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE she ran the red, and apologized to me face to face at the scene (I just couldn't prove it, and no witnesses stayed to give statements even though I saw another vehicle sitting at the light), so I was on the hook for my deductible as well. Even if you do everything right, and even prevent loss of life in the process, people suck--no one gives AF.

@BigdaddyII So sorry to hear about your truck. I am glad to hear everyone is OK. I lost my truck the same day later that night, near head on with a drunk driver, she slammed into my right passenger. We all walked away. I also had a Dash Cam, they are priceless! I actually use one of the Aukey's you linked when I travel, they are great little cameras and not too expensive.

We think she was sleeping. She just got off of an overnight shift at a local hospital. Said she doesn't remember anything immediately prior to impact.
