My 2016 battery starting going out. (I think)

My truck randomly wouldn't turn on for the last two days. The dash would not light up when I put the key in and turned. Nothing, no clicking or anything. The battery icon would lightly turn on but fade out.

After about 5 minutes I gave up. I kept a close eye on the dash. The screens still wouldn't light up, but my rpm and mph gauge would slightly move with a very light clicking sound. Keep in mind that the key was not in the ignition.

I went to go call a tow truck, before I did, I said what the heck, I tried sticking the key in the ignition once more and my entire dash lit up. So I turned the key and it started immediately.

The crappy thing is that it reset my trip a, trip b and my maintenance. Fortunately, I had written them down a few days prior.

Now, today... The same thing happened. At least this time I was parked in front of my house.

I cleaned the battery terminals and wire brushed everything. It started a bunch of times. I grabbed my multi meter and did a diy test. It seemed fine. I went into my local advance auto, he said my battery was fine, but needed a recharge (he said it's at 500 and needs to be around 700). I told him that I just got done driving 150miles and it should be full.

He then asked if he can test my alternator, I said sure, he then went and grabbed the newer tester, he performed the test, it tested fine. His new tester said that I needed a new battery.

I then said fine, give me your best battery for my truck. He came back with https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...-24f/24rextj/4742602/2016/toyota/tundra?pos=1
I used my buddies shop account and I was able to get it for 120 bucks. I went and swapped it in the parking lot and got my core fee of 18 bucks refunded to me.

Now, I'm seeing people say that I should have got a 27F sized battery. The strange thing is that the little 24f battery out performs the 27f batteries they had.

I'm SOL as of now, as I already installed the new battery. Is the little battery fine for this truck? Or do I need to go buy another?

OEM 27F 120.00 exchange , 800 cca excellent choice. OEM from 2013 lasted 6 yrs , and I only replaced for security , put old one in boat for back up , still holds full charge.

I'm running with a Optima Red Top 35. Smaller size than 24F. Great battery. If you have lots of lights or a winch get the Yellow Top.

My 2014’s stock battery lasted until 29 July of this year, replaced it with a stock battery from Toyota. Everyone’s experiences will differ.

My wife’s went out on her Highlander this week after 5 years. I replaced it with a 24f. You should be fine. The difference besides size is the reserve will be shorter. What is your CCA? I think the 5.7 is 750.

Mine had a 24F in it when I bought it used (5.7, cold weather and tow packages). I just replaced it with a 27F (which Toyota says is standard with these options).
