I was thinking about it for the future... I have a rear cat delete so I currently only have the cats before the o2 sensor, then i have two shorty fiberglass mufflers that go into a single catback with a nice tip at the exit. This is a really quiet engine and straight pipe sounds like an infiniti engine. I like how it sounds right now I'm scared that the headers wont be worth it. Also they're kind of hard to fine most of them require some kind of custom work which is hard to do because I need to install the parts myself first.

my 2006 4runner with the 4.0 beats my 2016 tundra 5.7 in a drag race- every time. Love that engine in the 4runner or mid size vehicle. I think it is one of the best engines for SUVs and trucks. 4runner now has 165k miles and runs great.

    Really?

My mom drives an '05 pre-runner 4 door Tacoma with the 4.0, she lined up with me at a stop light wanting to race. I was in my 2007 5.7, and I left her way behind. Her truck feels quick because it's smaller, but it's slow compared to a 5.7 spinning 4:30 gears

Gearing makes a difference off the line, Tacomas would do better with 4.56 or 4.88's I think they come with 4.10 or less

Yes, my 2006 4runner is really quick. It is lifted, OME suspension and like one size larger than stock tires but it really moves. If my wife is driving it it will get me off the line and pull away every time.

    ... I'm new here ...
I own a 2008 Regular Cab Shortbed Tundra with 4.0 V6, cruise control, power windows, power door locks, 2 wheel drive ... and it is Black !
... Anyone else have a Black one like mine ?
... Probably not the most popular
    ... but lots of fun.

i know it's an old thread, but i'll add my two cents. my '06 4Runner had the 1GR-FE and that motor was perfect with just oil changes. when i sold it last year with 230K miles, we had a PPI done before the sale and the mechanic said it was in tip-top shape, ready for another 100. these motors, and the 2UZ-FE, are absolutely bulletproof.
