Anybody knows how to remove the chrome lining on the air vents on a 15 tundra?

If you are talking about the chrome ring around the vent, I have the same question. Tired of the sun reflecting off all the chrome....

After wondering this myself for a while, and then seeing this thread, I decided to go at it.

It was a lot easier than I expected.

    1) Gently pry up the instrument panel register subassembly.

    2) Remove the three Phillips head screws.

    3) using your fingers, gently lift the 3 side locking tabs.

    That's it.

I haven't done the other ones yet, but I assume it won't be much harder.

No worries! Thanks to Joe C for reminding me to get off of my keister and figure this out. While I had this trim piece out just now, this is what I did:

I used 7 coats of PlastiDip on the console trim.

    IMG_4251.jpg

If I were going to use spray paint, I would have had to rough up the chrome surface, prime it, then paint. Then, if I didn't like it, I would have to do it all over again. With PlastiDip, if you don't like it; peel it off and go to plan B.

nice job, I couldn't wait to get rid of the chrome trim. The 2 center trim pieces are a little more difficult and time consuming. 3/4 of the dash has to be removed to get the one on either side of the radio.

That's pretty much all there is to it! Took the pieces off earlier. Wish I would have seen the linked video first. Lol. There are 18 plastic clips on the gray bezel piece that hold it on. I will get all of my photos and try to put together a DIY thread for all of the chrome trim pieces for future one stop shopping.

Thank you ChucklesToy for the video.

I've always thought this was funny. Guys that buy nice trucks look for ways to get all the chrome off (me included sometimes), meanwhile guys that buy basic trucks without ANY chrome are looking to upgrade some of their trim to add some chrome.

I find it funny too, but I think it is a balance and sometimes there is just too much chrome on certain models. I like the balance of the Platinum as well as the badges (or lack of them). In the case of the center console, I wouldn't mess with it except that the reflection on a sunny day is very blinding and distracting.
