    Hey ,
Stay with me on this one!
    I have the 07 sr5 model.
I started the truck , and all the lights on the dash started flashing. (Which has happened before) but this time When I started to drive ,the gears would not go above 3rd . So I pulled over took off battery clips to reboot the computer. Truck started to run perfect again , after a few miles same thing started happening. Now when I drive it, it's sometimes goes through the gears but mostly only Goes up to 3rd!
I have been to 3 different garages including Toyota , and none of them can tell me exact problem . Only they can rebuild the gearbox but that still may not fix the problem.
Any help would be gladly appreciated.

First off, welcome to the site. Glad to have you.

So Toyota dealerships may not do rebuilds, more so remove and replace. Maybe @LOTSOFTOYS can confirm. There is a thread “ask the mechanic” and he helps out as much as he can. Great thread to check out.

Try not doing hard resets on the computer. You lose the stored codes.

This sounds like a shift solenoid going/gone bad. They are not cheap, and you most likely have 2-3. Most likely 3.

your truck is likely in limp mode because of a code..
simplest problem like gas cap leak can throw code.
if you have a scanner see what code it is.
sometimes auto parts stores will let you use theirs.

Cheers @ColoradoTJ Yes Toyota said they can change the solenoids but may not fix the problem and there is 5 of them at $500 each. It's just strange how sometimes it goes through and other days it won't

Ok so my '08 was not shifting past 4th gear- after many frustrating hours of trying to figure it out (obdll said solenoid issue), i for some reason removed the (3) 10 mm bolts that grounded the harness and battery to the firewall, cleaned them with a wire brush and bolted them back and went 513 miles without any issues. So i then took a dremel and cleaned them with a burr bit and went about 5000 miles. But now its back and cleaning them again did not help this time. Don't know why the grounds cause issue any ideas?

Thank you, it look in good shape removed it and inspected and reinstalled, didn't really change much. Hard reset and it works well shifting into all gears, but after 3-4 reps (Red lights or stop signs) it goes right back and 4th is as high as it goes?

Your using the correct transmission fluid and filled it properly with the right procedure right? The trannys are finicky with needing correct fluid and ounces.

I put some Dr Tranny - in a small red tube, it's for torque converter shimmy, and then added about 1/2 qt of correct type. With no dip stick and no info on when to say when it's possible I put in too much? How do I determine when I have got enough in it?
