The trim piece by the hood and windshield by the wipers is all faded on my truck as the AZ sun is really tough on things here. I have tried using black out products on it but they really don't last. Would cerakote do any good on this or has anyone painted this with Krylon Fusion for plastic. On a side note anyone know how to remove this piece?

should be clips and maybe bolts that hold it in. I haven’t removed the tundra one before but I’ve removed them before from other vehicles and had to remove the wipers as well because it was over it

but I hit mine with 303 after a wash along with the side mirrors

There's a trick to removing the clips on the underside. I can't remember if it's holding the needlenose pliers horizontal or vertical. Once you tear up a few and brute force it out you'll see for sure. You're going to need one of these and it's not available right now but there are others just like it.

While you're in there get some 1/4 hardware cloth and close off the vent area to keep the mice out.

Big fan of Cerakote. Used it on my 06 4runner running boards and it brought them back to looking new. Great product for hard plastics and it lasts really long. I did my some of my Tundras plastics, mid section of front bumper, mudflaps, bed rail caps, over two years ago and it they still look great, no need to reapply yet.

Isn’t there a trick with heat gun to renew old black plastics like this piece?

Cowl, yes that is the word I was looking for. I have some cover all spray I will try and if that doesn't last then i might try the Cerakote or just paint it.

+1. A couple years ago I took mine off to do the rat/mouse mesh. At the same time I plastidipped the cowl nice and black. It's held up for the last 2.5 years and still looks good. I want to redo the mesh but I broke several of the clips on the underside so I would need to find more of those first.

If you are going to paint it....this is what I would recommend over Krylon. I've used SEM trim paint with very good success on exterior plastics

I've often thought about pulling the cowl and the wiper arms and repainting them..

If you’re going to paint it with any type of coating be absolutely positive there are no silicons, oils, etc from the products you've been using all this time trying to bring the black back. It will not adhere. Will be looking at a headache long term if not prepped correctly.

Yep and I don't recommend it. Will end up looking worse in the long run.

Solution Finish is probably the best thing for restoring faded plastic. Cerakote doesn’t restore as well, but will definitely last a hell of a lot longer than anything else.

This is exactly what is happening to mine. 303 doesn't work on it. @War Machine Thanks for the tip. I'll give Solution Finish a try!
