TRD Skid Plate Question

I bought this one. It's the Alum TRD plate, just missing the TRD letters. It has the recessed area for the letters so I might 3D print some TRD letters to pop into place. I have the Valhalla cat shields too.

I have the TRD plate but had to trim it to run lower control arm skids.

 

Do you have the RCI LCA skid? Any photos of how much/where you trimmed? I was thinking about just trimming the LCA skid itself instead.

 

Got mine today! Quality seems pretty good. Did all of the mounting holes line up? Tufskinz letters should get here tomorrow.

 

Everything lined up perfectly on the one I bought. I thought about ordering the Tfskinz a while ago, but I couldn't tell if they needed the original TRD letter to adhere to or if they stuck directly to the plate. Let me know how it goes.

 

Did anyone install rubber washers to prevent creaking with this skid plate?

 

Something to think about if it was mentioned before. If you ever plan on doing a diff drop, you can just get the RCI with the diff drop option and still use it without a diff drop until you decide to get one later after lifting it. However, with the TRD Pro skid plate, its harder and more costly to get a diff drop kit.

 

Will the TRD plate work on 6in lift trucks

Finally got the letters today. Quality is very good. Only issue was the legs of the R were a little too long for the recess. I trimmed about 1/16" of an inch off each end. You'll never noticed it under there, just wanted to make sure the adhesive was flat against the plate.

 

these ones from ebay are they actual TRD plates or did some one make a knock off?

 

I would bet that they are probably knock offs, especially if the price is really low.

The $311 one on ebay is not a genuine Toyota plate. The main reason I bought it was for access to the filter and the price. I was going to get the aluminum RCI since the Toyota one has gotten pricey but came across this one and decided to try it out.

 

Another steel RCI here. I have a thick alu skid plate on my other allroader, it has to come off regularly for the sledge hammer work.

 

Frame antirust coating does a double favor of protecting the metal and terminating all the creaks and road noise

 

Is the ebay plate the same gauge aluminum as the OEM?

 

It’s about 1/4” thick aluminum.

 

I’m not sure if they’re genuine or not. Mine looks identical to a TRD plate and the quality is good. It even came with this box spacer piece like the OEM (not my picture).

 

Make sure steel shims above the crossmember are orientated correctly and TORQUED properly. It will never squeak.

Yes, access to the filter and plug without removing skid.

The RCI or TRD PRO skid plate should fit on your truck.

 

They are metal and come press-fit in. You unscrew the bolts with an allen key to access the filter. You do not have to take off the plate for an oil change

 

I just put the EBay TRD plate on my 21’ sport. Everything fit fine. Some of the hardware wasn’t included. Luckily I had some extra washers laying around.
