Thats where the daystar airbag cradles come into play. Best of both worlds.

Have Alcan springs for little over a month now. I really like them, they have settle in well. I just got back from a weekend of mountain bike camping with the bed fully loaded, bikes and ect. Truck road awesome, no sag and smooth as butter. I would say if you have the funds go for it, you won't be disappointed. Very glad I went with new springs instead of air bags.

I didn't take any photos of the truck fully loaded this weekend. But trust me there was no sag. If you look at the photo of the beginning of this thread I am loaded and springs oem springs flatting.

Thanks for the awesome info. I'm in a similar position and looking at options.

In your one post where you show the OEM springs and the 8 leaf pack Alcan...don't you loose some upward travel? Looks like the OEM bump stop was reused. The Alcan leaf pack with the additional girth looks to be a few inches higher off the rear axle than stock. Wouldn't this hit the bump stop sooner than the stock leaf pack? I'm leaning towards Toytec shackles at 1" with airbags. Still looking at options... My truck is also squatting just with my bike rack with 2 bikes and some gear in the bed (no cap). I imagine when we get our TT it will even be more pronounced.

    Thanks,

Bumping for a 5 month update, seriously considering pulling the trigger on Alcans. Just a little nervous about them flattening out like deavers and OEM after a year or so. My current Icon exp pack is pretty flat with a camper, full size spare and jack in the bed.

So far so good, they settled a bit, but still holding strong. I will be installing some CB shackles in a bit. I will report back with the ride and photos.

Mentioned this over in another thread, but I am very happy with my Roadmaster Active Suspension Springshttps://activesuspension.com/suspension-kits/. Standard setting gives about a 1/2-3/4 lift to rear unladen, better rear axle stability, and eliminates rear squat with IMO an improvement in ride quality. Little to NO rear axle shudder on frost heaves or highway strips/bumps.

    ***Update***
I added CB +1 shackles to my Alcan leaf springs. What a difference, the rear end feels so planted and really no bed bounce at all. Much smoother ride over rough roads and potholes. Brought the rear end up about 3/4". CB shackles are an upgrade I would highly recommend.

Nice! CB shackles are on my short list. My truck is starting to squat a little.

Once you install CB shackles squat will be no more. Will ride smoother as well.

And you think if you set it up to 40% would it make the ride worse have you done it

This is how my truck looks when I tow too. I need to get shackles. This is with a mostly empty dump trailer. Probably about 5000-5500 pounds total weight.

I was thinking +1s because I don’t tow all that much and I like the leveled look but +2s would probably work good.

Go +1, you will get 3/4" lift. You will notice an improvement in ride quality as well.

One thing i wonder. Will +3 shackles squat even more with that heavy trailer ? They are longer so in theory the leaves have more leverage on the shackle and may compress easier?

I think you are over thinking it. You aren’t increasing any pressure just the distance from the leaf spring to the frame.

I may be. I just remember back when everything was leaf sprung the jeeps would use longer shackles to increase travel out of the same spring

A load distribution hitch would solve the sag while towing.

Also, this is a requirement with the Tundra when towing over 5000 lbs.

I agree. I would definitely invest in one if I had a trailer. That dump trailer was borrowed from a buddy with a 3/4 ton.

How are they holding up? Looks like you have had them a year or so. I just ordered mine today! I ordered the 500 overload capacity with 1” lift. I did not order the special bushings were they worth it?

They have held up great, they did get a bit of surface rust, but other then that they are fantastic! I did the OEM bushing and no squeaking a year later. I even lived on a dusty road. Adding CB +1 shackles improved the ride further. Feels very planted and stable with weight. Overall I would definitely do it again. You will be stoked!

Sweet man! I live in Arizona so I am not too worried about rust but good to know just in case. I cant wait. The build is coming together!
