You don't pay sales tax at the dealership

But you will pay this sales tax directly to the California dmv when you go there to register your truck. And my guess is that you won't be able to work in that 7-8% sales tax into your loan anymore

We actually paid sales tax for CA at the Oregon dealership. They are sending docs to CA DMV and i would have to pay any difference (lets say my CA tax is slightly more due to the county whatever)
Most dealers I spoke to in NV and OR said they will charge tax and handle sending docs to the dealership, so at my end I just have to get a smog done and then go to the DMV after the documents are there

No, it’s exactly like I said. Nothing about buying out of state lowers your obligated tax rate, and nothing in my statement suggests this.

You would save taxes on the difference in sales price. I didn’t think I was being confusing about that.

If you can buy a vehicle for $4k less in another state, you will be taxed on a smaller number. If your tax rate in your city/county in California is 7.5% you are saving $300 on taxes on top of paying less for the truck if you can’t get a dealer locally to give you a price under MSRP.

And, if you are financing the truck and end up paying the taxes outside of the loan - you then aren’t paying exaggerated interest on said taxes over the life of the loan.

I was actually very very curious and scared to buy out of state as I thought it would be jumping through the hoops to get it registered in CA

    Was it quick and easy?

I don't know yet. Once the documents arrive to DMV in 10 days or so, I should be able to take that call!

However, you don't want to buy a car in CA if you live in another state as they will charge you CA sales tax unless you have the vehicle shipped out of state (can't drive it yourself).

There are a lot of things I enjoyed about living in CA. Taxes were not one of them.

Yeah, that part sucks I had that issue shopping motorcycles, unless you take delivery outside the state you pay tax…. And transport to Oregon border didn’t make it worth while.

It sucks for dealers in CA that basically lose many out of state customers.
