Happy to report I just bought the lift kit from Sparks.
Tundra Lift Kit $2,418.20 no tax $100 shipping.

I’ve been in touch with adventure motors, (super cool dudes) they recommend using most of these parts except the front coilovers and rear shocks and springs, replacing with Fox 2.0 coilovers in front and Dobinson shocks and springs rear. This will add a lot of money to the package, I’m not at all sure if I want to do this.

I heard the rear on the TRD lift kit is a spacer lift not a suspension lift. What are your thoughts on the rear and how it rides, especially under load? Any other thoughts on the feel of the whole system and whether you feel the front/rear are sufficient would be amazing. Excited to join the club, whether I swap front coilovers or rear shocks/springs or not!

Found this Robo video about the lift kit. Probably a click ad but I found it informative

I don't know that I would've pulled the trigger on the TRD kit if I was planning on not using the front & rear suspension lift components. Granted the kit does some with some components that you'll use with other components use, like the front axles and other minor components, but the majority of the "value" in the TRD kit is tied up in those front coils & shocks that come with it.

I am disappointed that the rear is just a spacer and the front coils are just 2.0 non-adjustable. That's one of the reasons I didn't go with the TRD kit.

Since you were talking to AMKC, was there a reason you didn't just pull the trigger on their kit vs. buying the TRD kit and not using part of it?

Hi KroppDuster, great questions and thanks for writing. This was a tough one. I want to use most of the TRD kit parts. Some of them are not yet available for individual order. Ordering just the parts I wanted individually at retail was looking like it might cost more than the discounted entire kit price.

I personally found the cost of the Fox 2.0 coilovers and the Dobinson shocks and springs to be higher than I had expected. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to sell just the TRD front shocks and springs separately.

Coupled with the 10hr drive each way to Kansas City I began reflecting on having the TRD kit installed locally again. It’s a pretty unbeatable deal. Clearly the front Bilsteins can’t compare with Fox coilovers. And the rear is simply a spacer.

Even given that I’m still thinking of having the entire TRD kit installed as-is, and seeing how I like it. I do wish it were adjustable because I find it a bit too high for my taste. Does anyone know whether there is any way to lower the lift to 2” or so? (I seem to recall that my 5100s on my Sequoia are adjustable).

Based on what I’ve heard from those who have the kit, most seem pretty impressed. After I drive it for a while I can always replace the coilovers and rear shocks/springs down the road, knowing I have the other Toyota lift kit components in place.

I would probably start with the rear, swapping out the spacer lift for the Dobinson shock/spring combo and leaving the front TRD/Bilstein coilover for the time being.

Thanks Ryanwgregg this is great information! The three settings correspond with the 5100 I have on my Seq. Lowest setting may create issues and require changes to the rear spacer etc. I think I’ll have it installed at Toyota under warranty and then work on changes. I have to find a dealership cool enough to not force me to remove foglights, assist in keeping TRD skid, and not overcharge me. I wonder if anyone has the time to put together a list of what folks have paid their dealerships for the install? A big ask!

Aye. They're "adjustable" in the sense you can select one of 3 preload positions during the install. I do think for this price point, they should've been adjustable on vehicle like a lot of Fox/Icon/King, etc. :-(

Are the sway bar spacers needed or recommended?

the good guys at Adventure Motors sent me this pic of their sway bar setup to work with their 3 piece skid plates.

compared to mine with the huge trd spacer

and my hack to attempt the same thing. those spacer blocks are hard to find. Couldn't find one at my hardware store

alternatively, this hack allowed my wheels to clear the sway bar, so no more rub for me! except when I'm bored

I’ll have to check this out. The vendor I ordered from just cancelled my order saying it was a “local pickup item only”

I personally recommend Sparks or “BAM” (Brunswick Auto Mart). Have had good deals and shipping rates from both

If I was building the ultimate lift I would start with the TRD kit and swap in Dobinsons rear coils. Id run that set up a bit, then swap in King/ Dobinsons/ Fox/ Icon front and rear shocks with remote reservoirs and adjusters. At the same time id drop in a new panhard bar and upper and lower links.

That’s a good question. I am in eastern Washington in Spokane. I haven’t found any here in Spokane or Coeur D’Alene that have online parts stores.

This is worth a check…put in P/N and it should show neatest to furthest dealership who participates.

Then call them and see if they can indeed get it before pulling the online order trigger

I tried this. I actually found one dealership selling for $800 OVER MSRP.

    upload_2022-11-8_20-32-42.jpg

Sparks was the cheapest I could find. Came out to $2,656 with shipping. Which isn’t too much more than my original order. Having said that, I actually think I might wait to see what other options come out in the third party market. I’m not in any rush and don’t see any downside to waiting and see what the rest of the market comes up with.

I just received my TRD lift kit from Sparks. It arrived in 3 boxes, two of them extremely heavy. I am not opening the box right now, working with my dealership on an install estimate. Stay tuned!

My intention is to customize this lift kit after it's installed. I'll drive it for a while and see how I like it. Important to me that I keep the foglights, and use my TRD skid plate by not installing the Sway Bar spacers (reusing factory end links).

I am interested in seeing whether I can use middle or low settings on the front shock. I'm not sure how the rear can also be lowered to match, the spacer it comes with may not permit that.

Ultimately I may swap the front coilover for an adjustable Fox or Dobinson, and Dobinson rear strut/coils. That will probably be a bit in the future while I get some value out of the TRD kit. If I really like it, I may leave it alone! I paid $2,418.20 with $100 Fedex ground shipping (arrived in 3 days). No tax. Really happy w/this price.

Nice! I’ll be excited to hear how you like it. I still want to do this, but holding off for now. This is actually my first truck, so just getting used to it a bit before I got crazy on modifications. See what I like, how I use it etc.

Nice…holding off until I can find a local dealer who will match that price with reasonable installation or install my part (from Sparks) for me cheaper than $2600+tax

I was thinking of waiting to see what the Trailhunter suspension kit looks like but at the rate Toyota is going with their releases it might be 2025 before that gets released.

I heard back from my dealership, they quoted me $2100 for the install. They are charging me the accessory rate of $135/hr, they are booking 15-18 hours but will not charge more if they go over. I indicated that I want to keep my fog lights and they agreed. I also requested that they retain my TRD skid plate by not installing the Sway Bar spacers (reusing factory end links). I will be confirming re: the 12 month warranty on the kit (apparently it is only a 3 year warranty if installed at time of purchase). Are there any other questions I should ask while I'm at it? What do you think about this install price? I asked whether they would lower the price due to not removing the fog lights but the answer there was no.

Edit: reviewing some of the post posts, some install prices seem to be around 1100, 1200. I'm being quoted $1000 more than that...for those who have had this installed at a Toyota dealership, how many hours did they quote you, and what was your rate? I'm looking at the installation PDF, it doesn't indicate the estimated time required/billable hours for the job. Is there an official Toyota # of hours suggested for this kit?

$3995 USD MSRP so technically they are giving a discount…
…but not discount enough when they can be had for $2600+ USD

My Tundra is having the TRD lift kit installed over the next several days. I’ll pick it up next week Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I was very clear in discussions and in writing that I did not authorize or approve the foglights to be removed. I printed the install guide and crossed out #5. I also indicated that I want the TRD skidplate to fit and left instructions to not install the Sway Bar spacers (reusing factory end links).

The install will be under warranty for one year as the kit wasn’t installed on a new truck (in that case warranty is 3 years). Install is capped at $2100 no matter how long it takes. Hourly rate is $135, accessory rate compared to $165 standard. With the skipping of foglight delete I argued it should only take 10-12hrs. Apparently much depends on the skill of the techs, they are protecting themselves as they have no idea how long it will take them.

I appreciate their willingness to keep foglights, I indicated they will be used off-road only and not on-road. Also appreciate their working to keep the TRD skid. Apparently some dealers won’t deviate from the manual. They’re going to take pics and vids throughout. I sincerely hope that the install will exceed my expectations in both time spent (under estimate) and that fogs and plate will both be intact and installed when complete.

I had a talk with my dealership and they said my lift is warrantied up to 6 years. So clearly their is some leeway on what risks the dealership are capable to accept. My dealership also left my fog lights alone as well.

When has warranties ever been up to the dealers to decide? I buy a car and the dealer says trust me, we will warranty it for 6 years/120,000 miles. However, paperwork in you manual says 3/36,000 miles. Who are you going to believe?

If the lift kit has a warranty is it not clearly spelled out on the paperwork with the lift?

Toyota of America, Mfg. is the one that is ultimately going to pay out if there is a warranty claim, not the dealer.

Thanks mmasse! That’s great news I appreciate your experience! Pretty sweet they left your foglights and 6 years warranty! Wow! I was going off this:

    https://www.toyota.com/racing/trd/Warranty

TRD Parts are warranted for 12 months or 12,000 miles from the date of installation or for the balance of the new car warranty in force on the date of installation, whichever is greater, when TRD Parts are installed by an authorized Toyota Dealer.

So, I could have as much as a 5 year 60,000 mile warranty. I’ll have to reach out to Toyota as they don’t seem to understand. here’s another doc showing the kit with skidplate. F8DBD002-445D-4579-8644-21478E58C820.jpg

Yes not too far. I did see this and it comes about to about the same as ordering from Sparks and having it shipped. My dealership quoted install of $900-$1100 which sounds pretty good compared to others. Ultimately I decided I think I will hold off and wait a bit. This is my first truck so getting used to driving a larger vehicle day to day.

@bballjames I am in WA too. Which dealer quoted that install price? I have two quotes that are both in the $2200 range. It is all over the board - I am seeing people here say as low as 7 hours and had one dealer say 15 hours! Also, good to note that there is an Accessory rate.

I am going to do this lift, put 35x12.5 ridge grapplers on and the TRD skid plate (sway bar under it!) - and then start my blackout process on my 2022 1794. Already have the TRD step and bed step and windows tinted and tonneau cover.
