Installed the TRD exhaust and now I want to paint it black. Anyone done this? Can I just remove the exhaust and go straight pipe while the shop is working on it or will that cause issues? Thanks.

So no mechanical impact? I don’t want to do any damage. My other option is to purchase another TRD exhaust, just the tail pipe portions, have them coat it and then swap. Just hate to spend the $500.

Apparently the next version of the TRD PRO will be black. Trying to get out out first. Sounds like no issue going straight pipe for a week.

That’s looks awesome. How much was the TRD tip? Was it a pain to spray paint or simple? Looking to do this as well to match my black out look

Won't have any problems at all. I left mine off for a few days after installing my BAMuffler. Gonna be loud though.

If you leave the tailpipes off on a TRD exhaust the exhaust is directed up towards the bed of the truck and if ran like that prolonged could heat up your spare tire pretty good. Take a look where they join together and you will see what I mean. May not be an issue, but I wasn't willing to risk it on mine.

I wouldn't be worried about it being louder, when I took my pipes off it actually got quieter...

I just got a used TRD exhaust set and noticed its all rusty looking on the pipes was thinking of painting it black. That sure looks good. What kind of paint did you use?

I had also painted mine with high heat paint. No issues. Did it on 3 different sets.

Regular paint worked on mine. I don't think tail pipe gets hot enough to require high temp paint. If unsure just hit it with a IR thermometer.

    Flux capacitor!
Here is a pic of when I painted my rear exhaust. I sanded the exhaust, clean it with alcohol, used a high temp primer and then used a high temp flat black paint. It was very easy to do and made a big difference on looks. 93A3563A-A6DF-4174-967B-AD8A12AF5FF2.jpg

One other thing to consider about not having exhaust out a tail pipe is the moisture and acid's from the exhaust will promote rust on the under carage, especially in colder climates.

I was as surprised as you. Maybe it was the resonance or something but I threw on Dirty Deeds dumps and it was noticeably quieter. So much to the point I took the whole thing off and went with his 6" system and cut it at the axle. Give it a shot on yours just disconnect the tailpipes in the driveway and start her up, you'll see.
