    Ouch.

Aisin ATF0WS for under $6 USD per quart - very easy to find online. "Stone Car" is your clue... :notsure: I'm sure there are more good sources down that way.

Up here in Canada, the my dealer seems to be the best bet at $7.25 CAD.

I'm planning to do mine tomorrow. Grabbed some WS and stocked up on oil filters at my dealer tonight, and have a bit of enthusiasm worked up.

    My bad. Drain from top

Had to use a socket extension to plug the return hose.

Then had to close the filler plug - not mentioned in video.

Total 8 quarts as the fluid was fairly clean - uncertain if previous owner changed so I did surgery.

Taking a lunch break while my pan drains - the morning's accomplishment was a pressure wash of the transmission pan and area, I replaced my serpentine belt while it drip dried. Then I loosened all 3 plugs to make sure I could without issue, and did a level check before draining. Will drop the pan and change the strainer and pan gasket next and then "flush" it. I'm going off the return line at the transmission end (bottom line there).

I bypassed the paper clip to the OBD on 4 and 13 pins.

I ran truck for 10 minutes up to temperature. While running, open check plug.

A steady strem = topped off and no worries

Well, that was quite the performance. Three transmission pan bolts were solidly seized, and despite my best efforts to free them up, they broke off. Thankfully, they all had about 1/4" sticking out to grab with vise grips, and after considerable effort, lots of Move-it, heat, effort and patience, I was able to remove 2 of the 3 this way.

The third didn't waste much time snapping off flush with the case, so I drilled it for an easy out, and proceeded to work at it for an hour or so to get it free. Well, the damn screw broke up in the hole (centre hole at the back) leaving about a 1/4" piece behind. I finally gave up extracting it and drilled the hole oversize for a heli-coil, at which point the remains of the broken screw wound it's way up into the cavity above. (I wish I had access to my left-handed drill bits from my toolbox at work, but it was after-hours by now and I couldn't get ahold of any) That cavity seemed like dead space between the main transmission case and the rear adapter housing to the transfer case, but I wasn't taking any chances by leaving it in there. After much frustration, I managed to fish the piece out with a pick, a jewellers screwdriver, and an air nozzle.

Then tap and install a heli-coil, replace the strainer, install the pan with new bolts (smothered in never-sieze!)and gasket, fill with WS, and proceed with the flush, which in itself was very easy. I used a long clear vinyl tube off the cooler return line at the transmission so I could watch the measuring jug fill up from the driver's seat, and I used 4L pump sprayer sold for stain application to refill the transmission.

13 hours after I began, and I'm done. :annoyed:

    Well you get-ter done!

I hit all three with liquid wrench and then drive several miles to create heat around them.

They all came off realitively easy although I stripped the check.l bolt.

The three plugs were a slice of cake, but I pulled the pan to replace the strainer, and paid dearly for it. I guess my procrastination was warranted after all... Oh well, it's done now, and I'd glad of it.

drain pan 3.5 quarts, loosen pan bolts remove pan clean magnets and pan. replace filter and gasket. install pan tighten pan bolts to 5.9 lb.. now fill pan with 3.5 quarts. then remove trans cooler hose front of radiator tow package. put 1/2" hose on pipe out let.
install 5/8 hose clear, in trans filler hole run hose to wheel well install funnel in hose.
now start eng drain 4 qt into jug. shut eng off put 4 qt into funnel, do this one more time then add 1/2 qt more at last fill. thats 12 qt new fluid. reinstall trans cooler hose with clamp.... now by pass trans cooler, loosen over flow bolt on pan, put jumper on pins 4,13 . start engine shift from p to R to D then shift from N to D repeatedly fast until D comes on for 2 sec then goes out. now your in fluid detection mode
now leave in N wait until D lites up and stays on. then remove jumper leave engine running loosen fluid check allen bolt drain fluid to a trickle then install tighten bolt remove trans cooler by pass shut engine off. you just saved 600 dollars.(if D blinks your trans fluid temp to passed 133 to hot shut engine off let cool then start procedure again) fluid needs to be 115 to 133. when D stays on your at 115 you have 1minute to drain fluid to proper level

i used MAX life and the label says Max life has different viscosity then WS
that said truck had hard 1st gear shift
the WS is much smoother trans was made for WS. won't use anything else. its easy to replace every 30.000

Arrrggh. Went to drop the pan and snapped off the first two bolt heads I attempted! I did not try any more. Forget swapping the filter and gasket. I just drained and filled.

I purchased a used acugauge2 from eBay think I paid 50.000. It reads transmission fluid temp.
The instructions on here are solid though.

Hello all. I am new to the group. My Tundra has the 4.6L V8 with 75,000 miles on it. Over the past few weeks I have noticed a hard shift between first and second. Do you think a fluid change will do this or is it more solenoid related???
