The trans fluid IS lifetime fluid. And automakers, Toyota included, consider 150,000 miles to be the lifetime of the vehicle.

Who here plans to dispose of your truck at 150,000 miles? Show of hands?

So if you're going to keep the truck longer than that you need to change the fluid and filter.

What I did was have my local reputable transmission shop cycle all of the fluid out at once using the vehicle's transmission pump. Totally safe, and it gets all the old fluid out at once which makes a lot more sense. To me, changing only 1/3rd of the fluid is a waste of time and money. They used Toyota fluid. $230 for the process. Truck had a noticeable difference in shift quality as soon as I left the shop.

I then did the correct procedure myself at home to ensure the level of fluid was in fact correct. Now I'm good to go for another 100k.
