    Alright Tundras.com don’t let me down …

    BLUF -
How tight do the push lock fittings and the M22 to 6AM adapters need to be? And how do you get them tight but pointing in the right direction?

I started off snug but keep getting a small leak. Tweaked it a few times got faster leaks.

I’ve now tightened them to about as tight as I can get them with the push locks pointing in the right direction. I may need to top off the transmission fluid before another check run.

    Story
I wanted to be cool (pun intended) like many others so I purchased a trans cooler kit from Genuine Cooling Systems. It’s been a while since I ordered but it’s been stupid hot here in SE GA until the last couple weekend.

The install has gone pretty smoothly up until now. I can’t seem to get these fittings sealed. Any help would be much appreciated. I’m afraid of over torquing and stripping something out or yanking the hose loose from the other end.

Is it possible you have loosen and tightened them too much and now they cannot seal correctly? I did not run into this issue with mine and I have the same kit. I used this video for my install. Started the video at where he does those connections.

Yeah - I watched his video too. The thought crossed my mind about messing with them too much. He also loosened his several times to get the orientation correct. I don’t think I’ve loosened much more than he has. It’s somewhat frustrating as I followed all the instructions and video only to get a very small leak that has led me here.

The biggest PIA is I’m now having to make adjustments with everything connected and it’s not as easy. I’m trying to avoid cutting the lines and starting over at the front.

I have an earlier kit of his but I would reach out to him and see what he says before you cut anything.

Are both of them leaking? When I do those and want them a certain direction, I put the fitting a little further up so when I tighten it and it moves, it mo es to where I want it. Or I might hold it from spinning when I tighten down. As for how tight, well that's just muscle memory from doing mechanics. You just know when is enough. Those are also aluminum which can get mess up easier on the seat face. Check the seat faces for scratches, some times a fine 1500-2000 grit sandpaper can fix the issue.

You could always try high temp teflon tape to wrap the AN fitting threads. My suspicion is you have now over torqued them.

Another similar approach is to use some RTV on the threads. I’ve used ultra black with good success, but you need to get all the ATF off and let the RTV cure before filling. If it’s leaking at the threads, this is a good approach.

AN fittings can be damaged from over torquing. The seal is the beveled surface not the threads so don’t use Teflon tape. Earls sells conical seals for AN fittings that work pretty well.

My bottom adapter that screws into the cooler is seeping like the o-ring was pinched. Did you ever find a solution to your problem?
